Help with DA-50

Hey guys I can't call DA until Monday but I leave town tomorrow for a week and I would like to send my engine to have it fixed in that time if I had to get it fixed.

My issue is that I got this engine in the summer and it ran excellent. I left for school August 30 and came back December 17, so it spent like 3.5 months without running. I tried running it when I came back and it started on the 4th flip like a DA would. The problem is that now, instead of taking 8-10 flips to pop with the choke on, it takes about 40-45 flips with the choke on for the gas to get to the carb. My friend says it's the carb diaphragm. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!!

First make sure the choke plate is closing all the way in the carb.

With the plane and engine sitting so long the carb could be gummed up with varnish. If the choke is closing all the way , take the carb apart and clean making sure the screen on the inlet is clean ,inspect the diaphram for holes or cracks. If every thing looks OK try replacing the diaphram.

Check all the tygon tubing inside and outside the tank for loose connections too.

I'll go with the diaphram and the needle seat.

Another possibility is that if you did not use zip ties at all the fuel line connections (including inside the tank) the lines may have hardened up, like they usually do, and could be sucking a little air.

Yep that's what solved my problem with fuel draw. Just take the plate off, push on the needle to free it up.

I'll go with the diaphram and the needle seat.

I had the same problem, I just put 2-3 drops of gas straight into the carb (Don't flood it though). It still took about 20 flips to start.

Once it runs, it requires choke only the first time I start it :)
