D & B engine User Comments Wanted
anyone using the D & B Engines, specifically the 3.7 (61cc) twin. comments on power, durability, how it runs and compares to say a Zenoah G62 wqould be aprreciated.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
Made with Echo parts, as good as any engine made today...About the same power as a G62..

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
A friend has one in a large Mr Mulligan. Sweet running motor. Very similar in power to a G-62, but a lot smoother, and easier to start. Turns a 22x10 prop with good authority.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I have owned about 6 of them. Been around since forever---They are an older design, which would make them "over-built" in todays ounce crazy world. Translation: they are heavier than most--but they are very, very durable. I don't think I have ever heard of a rod or crank breaking. Ken (Ridge Machine) is a small operation that produces a quality product that does not get a lot of press--very popular in the Ohio area. As stated earlier, about the same power as a G62, but super smooooooth and also like the G62, they will last forever unless abused. I will be surprized if anybody can come up with a negitive comment.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I agree with all above. My experience with one is in my Iron Bay Corsair. Small enough to snuggle into the cowl without cutting holes, which was my main reason for getting one---glad I did!! That plane is going on it's third year, flown a LOT. Absolute minimum vibration, ie, SMOOOOOTH.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I've got one that i bought from a friend several years ago ,the 3.7 twin. I've had it in several planes including 2 Byron Christen Eagle's and a Morrisey Bravo .
These are great engines that are very reliable and smooth and about the same power a my G-62. |
RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
The only bad thing I can say about a D&B 3.7 is that I let it get away. It went to live with AJF-2.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I just pick up a used 3.75 D&B twin at the LHS. It looks to be in good shape. I have been trying to figure
out what plane to put it in. The IMAC boys at the local flying field suggested I use it as a door stop. (ha ha ha). I did not laugh much. I would like to use in some type of aerobatic ship. Any suggestions?? Thanks Tom |
RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
The local IMAC boys will be eating their words...Miles Reed flew the prototypes many years ago...:D

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I've got 3 of them, a 3.7 on a Weeks Solution... a 3.7 on a Cobra X-wing, & a 5.1 on a Carden El Bandito...you couldn't ask for a better running engine.... choke it & flip till it pops.. turn choke off & it will crank on the 3rd flip.. everytime.. they are excellent...

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
That's the engine company name I can never remember. Great engines! If those IMAC guys talk you into getting rid of it, call me. I'll take it:)

4 years since my earlier post-LOTS of flying-NO engine issues, LOVE my D & B 3.7!!!!!!!!
|
RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I have owned 4 of them. Outstanding in every way.

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I have a solution XX that Miles built for me 4 years ago. It has the D&B 5.1. I have another 5.1 in a box as well as two 3.7's. I think they are the best twins ever produced. Ken Baker also has a 120 hes been working on, but I dont know the status

RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I spoke with Ken today at a fly-in.
He said he was going to make bolt on ignitions for the Z 20. As soon as he gets them ready, I'm buying two of them. He said his new ignitions will run with 4.8 to 8 volts. |
RE: D & B engine User Comments Wanted
I'm looking at a used 3.7 to put in a quarter scale Waco, but don't know if it will fit inside the cowl. Based on the dimensions D&B shows on their website, the engine should fit using 10mm plugs. The cowl has a 10.25" inside diameter. Can you guys that own the 3.7 let me know if you think it will fit? What are the sizes of your cowls? BTW, do you have any for sale?
