MSC 23-8 and DA50

Was thinking about trying a MSC 23-8 on my DA 50 and wanted to know if anyone had any feedback on the performance..This is with the Stock muffler and well broken in..

What happened to your NX 23x8? :)

I think you will get around 6900 with DA pitts muffler. I just read a thread about that prop somewhere. It's a good prop for the engine IMO (broken in engine).

That's a bit much for a new engine. I'd go 22x8 during break in. Somewhere near 7000RPM.

Still got it! [sm=thumbup.gif]

I wanted to try the MSC 23-8 to see if I could get some better braking..That NX really pulls great but Id like to get a bit slower on my downlines..

An MSC 23-8 is an awful lot of prop!! Twice the wood of an NX in the same size. That's something to think about before making the investment.

RE: MSC 23-8 and DA50

I have used MSC 22-8 on DA50/slimline pitts and MSC 23-8 on DA50/KS1060, both combinations were very nice. The MSC is a thick and wide prop and like said, it a lot of wood. The 23-8 from my memory only turned 6500 but was good. Both Props are very well behaved in the sound dept. As far as down line breaking the 23-8 wins IMO. I still have an MSC 23-8 and might try it again when I get another 50cc plane. From what I have been taught, use a bigger prop on lighter planes and a smaller prop on heavier and larger planes. I love the DA50 and my favorite prop on it is the mejzlik 22-8.

Thanks! The 22-8 works really well and with the stock DA muffler I am getting 7200 R's with a NX 23-8 Im getting 6900-7000 R's..the NX is a good prop but doesnt brake as well as Id like

Yea, any of the beech props have too much flex for me. The MSC is the way to go when using wood, IME.

Joe,

Check into the Biela website and see if they have a prop in the 23-8 size. It will be a touch less than the MSC but miles ahead of the NX. Pricey and slow to get here, but worth it if they have the size you need. Also try Aircraft International and 3W as possible sources. Although the 23-8 MSC may appear to work well on the 50cc motors, MO is they will load up the engine too much, heating up the top of the piston to undesireable levels.

I spoke with the MSC distributor in my area and the opinion was the 22-8 was the best prop in their line for the DA50. They said they sold lots for that application. Just thought I'd throw that in the mix.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you about the MSC 22-8 being one of the better props for the DA50. Most of us are always looking for more output if it can be had, so the experimentation part of the hobby works out for all with the advent of these forums. Gotta love the digital age for the exchange of information.

Just spoke with Mike over at MSC anmd he said that Ill prolly drop about 500 rpms with the 23-8..so Im looking at around 6700 r's..seems like a pretty big drop

Guys, I have a MSC 22x10 for my DA50 but i have not tried it yet. My engine is not broken in yet. Will this prop be a similar load to a MSC 23x8 or do you think it will be more?. I bought this prop for a 27% CA extra but maybe it will be too much load for the engine [:o].
Anyone have RPM´s number with this prop??.

RE: MSC 23-8 and DA50

The post from Josey Wales just before yours is a fair indicator of the answer you seek. Under 7,000 is really not an area the engine likes to be operated in.

RE: MSC 23-8 and DA50

22x10 and 22x8 are theoretically the same load if I remember correctly. That's too much prop for a new DA50.

I've got a 50cc engine of some other make. I'm turning a Zinger Pro 22x8 as a break-in at 7500 rpm. Does anybody have some camparison numbers between this Zinger and any of the 23x8 here?
