DA-50 availability?

I placed an order for a DA-50 from Chief Aircraft, and then got an email that they are backordered until early March . This is my first engine from Desert Aircraft - should I expect this backorder situation to drag on longer than the official estimate? What are people's experience with DA engine availability? I'm just trying to get a realistic estimate of when the DA-50's will actually be shipped to customers ;)

RE: DA-50 availability?

I'm guessing they are repairing them as fast as they can. ;)

Yea I know two from the Las Vegas area that they are working on.
But they stand behind their engines 100%.
I can testefy to that.

RE: DA-50 availability?

Actually DA is pretty good about clearing up back orders. You may want to give them a call direct to see what their estimate is. It's due to excellent advertising, so everyone believes that DA is the best motor. If you just can't wait and still want a great motor, also place a call to BME and Taurus. BME55 will be lighter and likely stronger. Taurus is easily on a par with, or exceeds the DA with power.

RE: DA-50 availability?

DA has most likely sold more 50cc engines than all the others combined, around 6000.. When there are that many out the number of problems, percentagewise, is probably not that bad...;)

I have been waiting about 3 weeks for a 50 i will give it about another 2-3 weeks if no 50s then i might just get a brison. My 2.4 is a great engine so i am sure that the 3.2 will be just as good .

ChiefAircraft has a good reputation to stand by as well. If they say early March, its going to be Early march....

BTW thats only 1 week + some days. Once UPS gets ahold of it, its at least that long....

RE: DA-50 availability?

I think that March is only 5 days from now.

To a distributor, early March is about March 8-10th....your talking about the beginning of March.

BTW, the BME55 will be ready in April. What that means is April 30th...

Hi Ken,
I agree with Ralph, why not call desert aircraft and speak to them. Phone: 520.722.0607 They are the nicest people on the planet and will let you know if there is one in stock for you. DA50 is my favorite 50, second it the RCI 62!~)

DA does not have any in stock now either....probably waiting on parts. I have had one on order for about 3 weeks and they told me it would be about 4 when I ordered. One more week:)

I guess Yogi Berra might have said... they'll never be successful, too many people ordering. Can't say too much bad about selling that many engines.

Yes, I called them yesterday, and the person I spoke with said he wouldn't have any in stock until the 2nd or 3rd week of March. I'm hoping that means that Desert Aircraft will ship inventory to the retailers, like Chief, before they take any stock to sell themselves... [sm=tongue.gif]

RE: DA-50 availability?

Yep they gotta take care of their distributors first, very smart (if they want to have people selling for them = more sales).

RE: DA-50 availability?

Dave soesn't really don't NEED any distributors, he could sell all they have through their website...
Why discount products when you can make more selling direct ?
How much trouble can it be, taking orders and packaging ?
Distributors are like partners, more trouble than they're worth...Been there, never again ;)
Look at Brison for a prime example...
