mounting 3w 100?
 

I usually mount my gas engins with 1/4-20 socket head bolts, but on the 3w 100 i can't get the top right bolt to pass the cylinder head,
I talked to 3w people and they said to mount the engine with 10/32 bolts. I don't like all the play you get with the smaller bolt
ANY BODY OWN ONE OUT THERE?????

Jim, I just mounted my new 3W 100 and had the same problem. I finnally used 1/4 x 20 allen head bolts. I wouldn't trust a 10 size bolt on this size engine. Wait until you try to run a throttle line to the carb. I had problems with the throttle locking up at full throttle(not running) due to the pivot of the throttle arm being straight back in the full open position. Had to raise the throttle nyrod higher so it could push down on the carb. arm. This of course was with the throttle spring disconnected. Connected had no problem but was causing the servo to chatter as if in a bind.

You could certainly use 10/32 bolts as they are plenty strong. Remember these bolts are in tension you could not pull them apart if you wanted too... A simple bushing would suffice of wood or plastic.

That said I have several 3W100 engine new and old versions. I have always used 1/4"-20 allen/cap screws or bolts. I don't understand why your having a problem. Are you using hex head bolts? You mentioned socket bolts?

The throttle lever has to be extended or replaced. I generally replace the stock setup with a nylon arm, such as those used on tri-cycle nose-gear units. DA has installed the arm for you.

My bolts are 2 inches long, not hex head, they are round head that needs a allen wrench to tighten them and they will not pass the right cylinder head.

Try using a shorter bolt. I think I can envision the difficulty your having now. Do you have a spacer behind the engine which necessitates the long bolt?

I went out and looked at a new 3W-100 mounting on H9's Sukhoi. Looks like a used 1" allen/socket head cap bolt.

I have a new 3W-100, and I mounted mine with 1/4-20 socket head bolts (2 1/4" long). You are right in that they don't fit that well, but if you push them through, they will go. You may have to twist them in, and it will scratch the finish a little, but they should eventually fit.
As far as throttle is concerned, I made an aluminum arm that offsets the pivot using a ball link. I normally make arms like this for all my 3-w motors

Can you install the head inside the fuse so to speak so the nut is on the outside. My 140 is mounted like that now that I think about it. I'm thinking the nut may be smaller in diameter than the head?
