CH ign. plug wire?
Has anyone changed the plug wire on their ign.? I have one that the outer casing is a little weathered and cracking. I have taken the box off but not sure how it is attached to the coil.
Just hate the thought of sending it in if it is something I could do. Thanks |
RE: CH ign. plug wire?
Send it in so they can check it out.
You can buy the parts, but they also check the spark strength (coil) It is not expensive and a bad job will cause you your plane in some cases. |
RE: CH ign. plug wire?
I changed the wire on mine. C&H did not recommend it but sold me the parts anyway. The wire is glued in with special non corrosive silicon glue. Its easy to remove. You have to fish the coil out of the case to get at it. That also is glued in with silicon glue. Just be gentile and take your time. Replace the wire and glue it in with your favorite glue, then put the assembly in the special heatshrink tubing C&H will provode with the new lead you bought from them. I put my coil back in the case without glueing it. I just jammed it in with some foam rebber to take up the space and keep it from moving in the case.
Its been flying for about four months now with no problems |
RE: CH ign. plug wire?
CH generally suggests that plug wires be replaced at the factory, not by the user. A simple mistake by the user can be extremely costly. The repair, OTH, is usually not much more than the postage. What's it worth to you to assure the safety of a plane worth $1,000 and up?

RE: CH ign. plug wire?
Thanks guys,
I sent my other ign along with engine to brison last summer and had them rplace the wire on it. They did not glue any of the componets to the case. How do I know you ask.:D I had this ign mounted with velcro straps (dont ever do this- no matter how tight you pull the straps it still vibrates too much) and cut the wires to the pulse switch right at the case. Pulled a wall into a hover and the little 3.2 sounded like a v8 running on 3 cylinders. Landed, let it cool and tried to fire her up and that was it. The white wire was cut through and bouncing together. The other 2 were holding together by a thread of insulation. Had to take the case apart to get enough room to solder them back together. Now waiting on a new pulse switch to arive. I think so long as these are running fine I will fly them then next winter send them both in to be checked. Anyone know what kind of turnaround CH has? |
