RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
AH,
WOW..... Sorry to here that you are still having problems. Engine runs great on the ground and in the air while right side up correct? I know that you said that the clunk in the fuel tank is not wrapped to the front of the tank and all the plumbing is correctly functional. If the tank is still good, I would definitely contact Dave at DA, and get it back to them for repair. KJ |
RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
I too, had a deadstick recently after pulling upline to a high altitude and then going into a flat spin. Fortunatly, there was plenty of air to recover and land. Being a first time gas owner - where do you access the carb screen on the DA-50?
Thanks - Jaketab |
RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
Send it to me and I will test run it and trouble shoot it for you.... I am sure its something simply overlooked through frustration. I will rick my plane to help you bro!

RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
))) HELP!!! (((
I have a DA-50 # 0576 I have it on a 1/4 scale Patty Wagstaff. Engine will run for a little bit in the air flawless but then starts loading up, almost like Im gunning the throttle up and down. but will stop when I throttle down.it never dies and idles perfect. But like I said at full throttle it just revs up and down til I throttle back. I sent to DA and they replaced the carb and said that was the problem. Well put it back on and its still doing it. Starts easy runs great on ground until full throttle in air and its doing the same thing. I wonder if its air flow in cowl??? Please somebody help. I have my first bigbird next weekend!!!!! |
RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
Hello Snyper
I'm no expert, but I have had my share of problems with DA 50. Mine is on its way back for the guys to look over, but I am afraid that I am going to get the same response -"runs ok here". One of the iterations with my problem child included symptoms like you describe, and I am thinking that what is happening is insufficient fuel delivery to the metering chamber within the Walbro carb. Since the carb is new, and problem has not changed -- I would guess that the carb is ok and that there is some restriction in fuel delivery to the carb. Of course you have been through you fuel system, clunk etc. Is there any restriction in the delivery line? Is the clunk bore as large as the tubing and is the tygon tubing and brass tubing full caliber? The reason I suspect the issue is fuel delivery is that fact that it runs well for a little while and then surges. The surging may be due to metering chamber filling, then emptying as fuel is drawn into the needle jets, then pop off mechanism within the carb not opening quickly enough to refill so as to keep up with needle demand. I doubt that it is airflow problem because runs ok for a time. If you tie that plane down, and then try to run the engine wide open for one minute -- does the engine sag and surge?? This is all just a guess. But I have had very similar symptoms ... after placing an extra gasket under the metering chamber in the carb. It corrected some issues, but altered the dynamics re metering/ fuel pump/ needle flow to cause the symptoms you describe. Good luck RJM |
RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
Hey Snyper,
I agree with HarDdeck, sounds like fuel delivery issue of a kind. I would go back to the basics on the fuel delivery system. 1) Change out the fuel tubing throughout the system. 2) Clean or replace all filters. 3) Straight shot from the tank to the carb, no filler TEE or any other source for air leakage to be drawn into intake fuel line. (Other than Inline ultra screen filter) 4) Ensure 1" minimun clearance between carb air intake and firewall or any other obstruction. 5) Ensure cowl has enough exhaust porting cutout to prevent air from damming up in cowl. Just some thoughts.... Good luck! I normally disconnect the return spring from backside of carb linkage. What throttle servo are you using? KJ |
RE: DA50 Troubles - Help!
Hi guy,i'm new to the gas engine, i have a new DA 50, just about 3gallon break in through the engine, and now switch the synthetic for Motul air cool 2t oil 50:1,run for NX 22X8 prop ,it's 6700rpm for full throttle,in the middle(the throttle's stick) is 6200rpm ,the idle is 1800rpm,i lean the hi end needle 1 turn, 2turn,it can't still increase the rpm, after reset the both needles as the da manual 1 7/8 low and 1 5/8 hi,then run the engine and adjust the both needles
,lean and rich cycling, the symptom did not still improve[:@], does anyone can help me to solve this problem, thanks.:) |
