Swapping ignition with different sensor, issues?

Hi all
As the Zenoah original ignition unit is limited to 4.8v and power hungry at 2amp and heavy, if I were to change the ignition unit with another one, what issues I should look for? Also the G20 hall sensor is not the usual design, ie its more like upright type. So if I can get the connection polarity correct to another ignition unit, will there be any magic smoke as the hall sensor will have different values? What about timing issues between ignition unit? I can try to retrofit another unit in but if the zenoah stock sensor is neatly mounted will they be any compatibility issues? |

Avoiding the original question, might it not be less work, cheaper, and faster to use a 2,000mAh or greater battery, such as a lithium ion or lithium polymer, and simply regulate the voltage down to 4.8?

I will definitely have the option of using the 2000mah batt, but all my current packs are on 5cell config and small capacity type. Also the ignition unit is dirt cheap for me to get one say about same price of having lipo with regulator...which is why I can consider the swapping option.

I don't know what brand you want to swap in, but I changed to a CH Electronics unit. Just re did the connector in the sensor to match the ignition. Be careful reversed battery on the sensor is VERY BAD.
