58GX2 PROBLEM

Hi! got a problem with my 58GX2 turn's over just fine start's nice, accelerates good if you easy on throttle up, but when I give it a sudden whip of the stick to full throttle engine die's out.

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

sounds like your low carb needle adjustment could be set too lean

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

On large engines, don't "whip" the throttle. The walbro carb on the 58 has no acceleration pump and will not compensate the sudden vacuum loss cause by the "whipping"action.
If you can't beat the habit, set the idle needle richer, or even both needles.

Ok,I can understand what you'r telling me,but I personally think it should n't be that way.thank you very much for your time.so it's normal for my 58 to act in this manner.when I say whip the throttle I mean I set the throttle back all the way down then in less than a second quickly give it full throttle.and that's where I have this problem wich I find kinda strange.but if you say this is normal well I guess I'll have to live with it thank's agian.

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

LOL to funny I think if gas engines did this a lot of the 3-D pilots would be sending there engines Back. its been my experiance that the engine will lean to the point where it will not hesitate on throttle up and without the dread 4 stroking burbleing after you run about 4 gal. through it Im on my 2nd 58 GX and its had 3 gal Ive flown it lean enought to not burble the last time i flew it but on the touch and goes at the end of the flight it was still hesitating on throttle up but this was after a 10 min flight and a longer time at idle durring approch Ive reset the neddle to a ritcher setting for the4th gal as a rule its about 4 gal before it will take a leaner setting without the hesitation I found this to be true with my DA 50 as well as my last Evolution 58

I never had that problem with my last 58 it ran like a champ, I would love to say the same about my new 58gx2, but I still can't get it to run.

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

It is almost never the engine's fault, but most of the time the carb and carb settings are to blame. To check that, switch carbs with your good engine and see if that works out.
If it does, have your faulty carb serviced by someone who knows his business.

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

Thank's again for you'r input on my situation but I think I may have my problem resolved, you see the hose I have running the fuel through accidentally I put running over my fuel tank when it should be going under it,so I just changed that and also stuffed some foam around the carb. and took it to the field for a test flight and until now I do'nt get that problem anymore, and when I whip the throttle she accelerates just great with no hasitation, just exactly what I was looking for:D

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

If you take the foam out, is the problem there again? I think that the fuel line routing did not cause the hickup hesitation, but a slightly lean condition did, like posters before also suggested.
The foam cause some extra air draw resistance, and that may have solved it. My plane draws air from inside the fuselage, and added foam stuffing around the tank makes me close the idle needle more. (1/2 turn!) Due to noise limits on our field, the carb opens just about halfway at full throttle, so my idle needle does all the work.

well I did do both at the same time so I really can't tell if it was one or the other?

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

AndyT,
Many garden appliance workshops do have the tools needed to check your carb on following issues:
1) sound membranes (should be OK in new engine)
2) carb will pop-off when pressure is applied.
3) carb will hold fuel pressure without dropping when engine is steady(stopped)
4) Bumping the prop to and fro against compression will show a slight drop in the applied fuel pressure at each bump, indicating that the carb works.
5) checks of fulcrum height for the fuel chamber needle lever.

Add to that, meticulous checks for any foreign matter anywhere inside the carb.

RE: 58GX2 PROBLEM

Pe my remarks was caused by my lack of faith in the abilities of the Evolution importer to really understand the motor! and since mine has been in their hands it is a sorry running beast with a lot lower rpm.[:@]

I hope Dale will allow me one more off topic remark:
@ AndyT:
It may not be the carb that is wrong. Check your ignition as well. The computer regulated spark advance could be off.

i had a question about the light. I get 3 short and onr longer flash when i turn it on. Is this correct for the pitts style muffler?
