Evolution 45GX2 prop bolts
Just received an Evolution 45GX2 engine and I'll be doing some engine testing for a report in the magazine.
There are 6 bolts around the prop hub and a stout looking center bolt with an equally stout looking nut in the center. I use the same props on all my engine tests and I'd rather not drill holes in several of them just for this engine. What are your feelings about just using the center bolt and nut, and not using the 6 outer bolts? The engine will only be run on a test stand and other than a 30 minute break-in, most power runs will be 60 seconds or less. Once I find a "good " prop, I'll buy a new one, drill it for the 6 bolts and use it on the 2 planes I have for review also |
RE: Evolution 45GX2 prop bolts
Dick,
If the face of the prop drive hub is smooth, cut a piece of adhesive backed sandpaper the diameter of the hub with a hole in the middle to fit the center bolt/stud. Stick it on the drive hub and that should give good contact when the center bolt is tightened. Bob |
RE: Evolution 45GX2 prop bolts
I planned to do that anyway, but since the center bolt on something like a ZDZ engine is NOT to be used for holding the prop on, I wondered if this one could be used as such.
Thanks |

Dick,
Why don't you post this in the MVVS Support section? Pe Reivers and Dar Zeelon are really good about answering these types of questions. Bob |
