Engine Recommendation
 

I ordered the plans for the Ziroli P47 70"WS yesterday. I would like some recommendations on a gas engine for it. Which should I buy, a Zenoah G38 or a Fuji BT32? What experience do you guys have with these motors? Which one is easier to start, which one is more reliable, are they equal.....

I wanted some info on both of those engines as well. However, because they have their own self contained ignition and do not use nicads, they do not get a lot of respect around here. This crowd only likes light engines that need nicad powered ignitions. Dare you mention a Fuji or Zenoah and they will just tell you to get a BME, ZDZ, DA, or the countless others that need nicads to power the ignition. I guess they tend to be lighter overall and give a better power to weight ratio with out any heavy magneto ignition installed.

However, Zenoah and Fuji's I believe are quality engines. I will get one in the future.

What about an MVVS 2.15 gasser?

Or you could do a chainsaw conversion. Lots of guys are using them.. Cheaper than a DA or ZDZ and they put out pretty good power. You have the option of using the stock magneto ign. or getting an electronic ign. system if you want to lighten it up.

Just a thought.

Weight will be your biggest issue. The G38 is not a powerhouse, it is a bit dated and heavy. As far as the Fuji is concerned, no experience of my own but plenty of threads on it. As far as starting goes, make sure you have a spring starter or switch to electronis ignition. For what a G38 cost, for not a lot more you can get the new ZDZ Sportsman 40 w/elctronic ignition, battery, muffler, and prop. Not a bad deal when you add these to a G38. Zenoahs are great reliable engines (have a G62 w/C&H ignition on a Giant Stinger). Just becomes a matter of choice, application and budget. Good luck!

for the same weight, less money and more power look at some conversions like the poulan 46cc or homelite 45cc both great engines, I think the homelite would be a easier conversion for someone that has no experience.if you need any help just drop me a line. I am happy to help any way I can.

if you want either of the engines you mentioned i would get the g38. a local flyer has this plane with a g38 in it. it flies real well with this engine. the g38 weight was fine as this plane needs weight in the nose.

I have been reading the thread on the G26. Would that be a good choice for this plane? Ziroli rates the plane for a 20-38cc engine, and at 12-20lbs. Seems like it would be a good fit the plane.

actualy you may be on to something, the only thing you need to keep in mind with the 26 is the hp is in rpm about 10000 rrm and should soud pretty scale for that bird. good choice go for it
