Evolution 58GX

Hi!!

I making the Top Flite giant corsair, and I plan to put in the Evolution 58GX2, Horizon Hobby claim it turn
a 24x10 at 6900rpm, I know everyboddy put in the corsair the G62, it seem that the evolution is a lot more
more powerfull than the G62 , do you think the Evolution is a good choice for the corsair
and is it really more powerfull then the G62??

thanks!!

RE: Evolution 58GX

Yes it is way more powerful than a G62, but I doubt you will be seeing 6900 on a 24-10 unless you use a cannister set-up. More info available thru the MVVS support forum here on RCU.

Do a search on the Zenoah G62, for recent threads before you buy. There is a lot of information regarding conversions, lightening and prop/rpm data that will make you rethink this choice. Think about replacement parts as well. Most every part of a G62 is commercially available (cheap), since the industrial engine is used in many applications. Then re-check your data on the evolution and check on replacement parts cost on the Evolution :)

Thank for the info,
the thing a like on the evolution is that I don't need a chanel for the choke, the ignition
control the choke, I meen I plug the servo choke directly in the electronic ignition, so I don't
have to buy an 9 chanels transmitter, a 7 chanels will be enough

with this muffle [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EVO30013400]Muffler, invrt, wraparound EVO58GX/2[/link] what will be the performence??

Duber3,

The easystart feature of the ignition module is cool on the evolution. Hopefully it works well, I'd be leary of having the ignition responsible for the choke, one more thing to potentially fail. If it's bulletproof, I think a lot of scale guys with detailed enclosed cowls will like it, and like you said...saves a channel on your receiver. Good luck on your project, keep us posted!

Yeah, it works so well that it will fire your engine up without you touching it! If You go Evolution, be careful. The ignition system emits several sparks over the course of a full second as soon as you turn on the ignition, for pretty much no reason whatsoever. So be very careful about where you are when you reach back to turn on the ignition, as well as where the piston is in the cylinder or you will get bit!

RE: Evolution 58GX

Well, I was being nice in my last post...staying positive. But the more I hear, well....I just can't. For $599 and a 'funky' (still trying to be polite) ignition, I'm having trouble seeing the point...especially as compared to the converted G62. I have $444+shipping invested in my 62, currently being converted to a lifetime warrantied EI (all included in the $444) after which will weigh 4lbs with ignition. And for that $155 I am willing to stick my finger in the front of the cowl to flip the choke lever on and off, and not bother with a choke servo at all. $155 will buy a lot of gas, or better yet, a nice muffler, canister or tuned pipe that will really make the 62 sing :)

But don't listen to me, I'm just talking like this cuz I have one, not the other right? :D

Hi all

I had a Brison Pitts on mine and gained 1100rpm by replacing it with an MTK 75, auto choke works without any problems, don't put your hands through the front of any prop at any time whether its running or not, the ignition sparks on turn on are too clear the plug of any oil. Wonderfull engines IMO and I will not go into the normal knocking that everyone else seems to do if they don't have one.
