New engine
I just saw an ad for an LS pro engine. A very attractive price - 775 for a 100 cc twin. Anyone have one?

Anyone have one? the web site is www.lsproengines.com I really like it, I have it in a Lanier Yak54 87incher, I fly it mostly at 1/3 power, anything more I have to be going straight up or I'll over speed the plane. I've included a picture of my plane and engine installation. It fits in the Lanier Yak 54 buy just cutting about 1 inch holes to clear the spark plug caps. The engine is about 10 inchs wide. I want everyone to know that I've known LS for 30 years, but I've known Gerhart at 3W for as long. I am doing a website for LS, I'm not being paid I just wanted to try one, that's the link to it. It's not finished, think of it as a house without furnishings, LS is slow getting the specs to me, he's swamped with orders and shipping, and I can't guess at them:D My engine, will turn a 26x10 TF 6000 rpm on the ground. When it gets a little warmer, and I get the website done, I have a bigger carb to try for MORE POWER as Tim Allen would say, I don't need it, but that doesn't meen I don't want it.:) BTW I started a thread on the LS52, which I have two of, it should be LS50, but when I got it it wasn't named yet and seeing how it uses two LS26 cylinders I thought it would be called a 52. I think the LS50 or LS52 is really going to be a hot seller, it's become my alltime favorite engine. Ps the extra holes in the cowl are there because it had a DA50 in it before, but didn't have enough power. |

I would get rid of the audio on the web site. Just my opinion.

A 100cc engine that can only spin 6k on a 26-10 Top Flite needs to go to the doctor...or start lifting weights. No disrespect intended, but those numbers are truly on the light side of the power curve for most unpiped 100cc engines.

The point is if people buy this expecting it to be on par with most 100cc or even most 80s they are going to be dissappointed. There are several 80cc engines on the market that will beat these numbers brand new out of the box. At $775 you are better to buy a 3w80 or ZDZ 80, save some money and turn more rpms. You will also get an engine that has been tried, tested, and stood the test of time. Like to see one after it has 15-20 gallons through it :) my 2 cents. |

Sinergy nailed what I was trying to say quite well. See if there's something that's being missed in carb tuning to bring the rpm up. Unless there's some untapped rpm in that engine you're not getting your money's worth even at a cost much less than it is. I don't know the engine at all, but a 100cc engine should be providing more power than a 70 or 80. If it does not, then you are suffering a penalty for the weight of the larger engine while sacrificing the power of a smaller one. You might want to see what happens with a more efficient prop while you're at it. The Top Flite will tend to be rather low on the performance level. It's easy to see why when the engine is running. Change the rpm levels and watch the prop arc. You'll like as not see that Top Flite flex forward and back quite a bit with the rpm cycles. That's nothing but lost power.
Play with it a bit and let us know how it all turns out as it breaks in. It would be nice to see a less expensive 100 that came close to all the others. |

Honestly there probably isn't much point in going through the hassle of trying a different carb. This is basically the same engine BCMA sells except theirs is copper jugs.
He has changed the carb and the ign. it looks like and I am would bet he has tuned the heck out of it and found a good combination that works for these engines. On a 27x10 Xoar he is saying 5762. Needless to say.. sure you have a 100 twin that is cheap... but you are not going to get the power of the more well known 100s. Most DA-100 will turn a 27x10 at 6300-6700 on standard mufflers. |

Adam (yes he is a good guy) will have tweaked thsi engine properly for sure.. 27x10 Xoar at 5762 This engine can't compete against other 80s on the market let alone 100s... so why waste $800? |

The engine looks nice and shiny, but listen to both Silversurfer and Sinergy and let common sense prevail.

Is a 80cc single as smooth as a boxer 100cc twin, no way. Will this fit in a smaller round cowl than a 80 cc single? It fits my Lanier Yak 54 better than the DA50cc single that used to be in it. I'll put a link on LS web page to 3W for guys that are willing to pay that extra $600 to get the most power, but there are some guys that would rather save $600 and let you have bragging rights to having the biggest one. |

However the numbers don't lie and I have seen you recommend this engine when it's not the correct solution and one of the reasons for recommending it was price and its a 100cc. 3w80xi - 26x10 Mej prop (harder to turn then a topflight) 6200-6400 $600 ZDZ 80 RVJ - 26x10 Mej prop (harder to turn then a topflight) 6300-6500 $775 LS100 - 26x10 Topflight (flexes a lot and not a very good load) 6000 $775 All you have to do is look at the numbers... both of these engines are lighter.. 1 by a pound and the other but 2 pounds and generate more power. 200 - 500 rpm on a 26" prop is a huge amount plus the numbers I am quoting are on real props that actually work the engine. If you have any experience with the 80s I mention.. you would be very hard pressed to say there was any excessive vibration from them because they were a single. As far as what it fit in.. I can't even understand your example? A Lanier Yak Cowl is HUGE.. my buddy's Brision 3.2 seems to fit in it with no problems at all.. in fact he tested a Torch 90 in there for the extra power and it still fit no problems. You last statement doesnt even make sense... these engines are cheaper that I am talking about.. and if you want to compare it to another 100 out there the power difference is night and day and well worth the extra $550. However anyone who is trying to get similar power to what this engine generates can get more power for less money. Like I am saying.. I am not trying to knock the product.. but I feel people should be educated properly when spending this type of money. And just like Sharika says " My numbers don't lie" :D |

I'm not trying to get in a pissing contest with you, but there is no way a large single is as smooth as a boxer twin, large singles aren't called thumpers for nothing. Yes, the Lanier Yak 54's cowl is hugh, but the DA50 stuck out of the bottom, looked ugly. The LS100 could go in without cutting the cowl if you didn't care that the spark plug caps rubbed on the inside of the cowl. I put small holes, (3/4inch), in the sides of the cowl for clearance. I have no doubt that upto 100cc you can make more power lighter with a single, and I have no doubt that singles are cheaper. I know that with this carb which is too small it's the weakest 100cc twin, it may still be the weakest with my SDC80 carb on it, but not by much, I'm prettyy sure it's the cheapest big twin. As soon as it warms up some I'll do more test. |

Dispite all the ranting, Iam interested in the LS engines---but the 50 twin, not the bigger 100. Is there a thread for it? If not, can you tell me if it likely suffers the same too small carb problem causing low RPM. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated. BTW---I like the website, but not the audio. Also, some other views of the engines would be nice. Also, more detail like is the crankcase machined or cast, number and type of bearings, stuff like that. |

That is not my intension... I am just pointing out some specs..
when was the last time you played with one of those "thumpers" I have seen 3 ZDZ 80 RV-Js and I dont see any thumping of any sort.. If you are thinking of the older Brision 6.4 single or something like that.. sure they were "thumpers". Yes you are correct... it is the cheapest 100cc twin... |

Someone enlighten me on the upside to this engine, heavier then the singles that put out more power an not even in the ballpark powerwise with other 100cc twins an admittedly shipped with a carb thats not the right size? Where do I sign up for one.....NOT;)
Put a good prop on the engine an your rpm numbers with plummet. |
