Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
I just finished installing a RC 100 electronic switch in my model using my Futaba 8UAF system, but on checking my installation I am getting no power going to the ignition.
The RC 100 connector is plugged into Ch.5 ( gear up ) on the Rx and the other two wire leads are spliced into the positive lead after the manual on/ off switch going to the ignition. Checking my install with my voltmeter with the manual switch in the on position and the radio system turned on I get a - 0.000 on my voltmmeter. What have I done wrong. Karol |

I would plug it into a channel that has 100% throws attached.. like El. on highrate and see if you can get it to come on with max deflection. Could be that your programing on the radio isn't quite right?

I would certaintly prefer it to be operated by a dedicated channel. With the RC 100 switch installed will the radio always have to be turned on for the ignition circuit to be live.

ya but I was saying you can test it on another channel just to see if you have it wired correctly... if you can get it working like that then all that's left is putting if where you want it and getting the programming end correct.
Your radio will have to be on and that switch in the proper setting for you to get juice. |
RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
Yes I know, but I assumed that this would be a simple install and nothing would go wrong, plus I made sure that the setting for the Ch used was +/- 100%. This really has me stumped as I just can't figure where I've gone wrong.

Did you plug it into an el. channel yet with high rates and move the stick both ways? At max deflection the system should come on if your wiring is correct... if not its either wiring or a faulty unit.

RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
I was having the same problem using a Futaba 9CAP... also channel 5. I hooked it up on channels 1 thru 4, the light on RCATS-100 lights up when I move the sticks to one of the sides. I finally got it to work by decreasing the end-point adjustment from 100 % to 90%. Maybe it needs to detect one side that is not at full deflection. I'm surpised this hasn't come up before.
Opps...I just read the instructions again. "Hint: may need to adjust ATV on your transmitter in order to set trip point. LED under label will light when relay is closed" duh... |

Yes---I talked with "RCATS" about this same issue---They told me to reduce the ATV on the operating channel to 75%---Problem solved!---

Thought for a while there I had made a boo boo and done something really stupid. Did you eventually get yours to work in channel 5. Will have a go at it again tomorrow. Karol |
RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
After I set the end-point to 90%, the light on the RCATS-100 goes on and off with the flip of a switch on channel 5. As RCATS suggested, I'll try 75%. I hooked up my ignition battery on one end and a voltage meter on the other. The voltage meter appears to show full voltage, so it looks like it's working. I won't have a chance to run the engine to test the engine cut off until the weather warms up.

RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
Some of the transmitters are sending out long pulses (greater than 2ms) to extend throw. Early versions of the switch firmware on switches could not deal with this long pulse. Turning the throw down on the channel you are using will alleviate this. The switch actually triggers around a center pulse (center stick position). If you put it on a standard channel (like ail or elev), you can test the switch.

I reduced the ATV on channel 5 to +/- 75% and the RC100 switch now lights up when the ch. 5 switch is flicked on, however there is a strange clicking sound coming from the Rx when the RC100 has it's led light on. Has anyone encountered this, and if so, what should I do.

RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
Is the clicking coming from the RC-100? If it is, you might need to increase it back up to 85% or so as it may be on the threshold of activation, all depending on how your throws are set. If you have further problems, feel free to call me at the office 408-830-0745 or email info(at)rcatsystems.com

RE: Problems installing a RCATS-100 electrionic ignition switch.
Increasing the ATV value on ch. 5 to +/- 85% as Michael suggested solved the clicking problem and the system is now functioning as it should. Thanks to all who assisted.
