gas engine interference
 

i have just started flying in september 06. i have just installed a g26 zenoah into a new plane. i have been told that ther is some interference problems when going to gas. any suggestions or anything that you can tell me? thangs tommy

Some of the things to check are:

Keep ignition electronice seperated from the RX.

No metal to metal contact on throttle and choke linkage on the engine.

Make sure you range check for interference.

That essentially covered the important stuff. Common sense in the use of good componets and solid installations does about all the rest. The use of a gas engine does not assure that you will have interference issues, only that there is a greater chance of it over a glow engine.

We have a couple of G-62's a G-45 & G-26 in the fleet. All are running the stock mag ignition with no sheilding anywhere.
Have used both FM & PCM radios (Futaba & Airtroniics) Never have seen a problem. Follow what AirWizard posted and you should be OK, Also be sure to balance your props. IMO you may be more subject to interference if you install electronic ignition although you will have easier starts with them. Good Luck I think you will like gas.

I have been running Quadra and Ryobi on Mag ignition.
Both types produced loads of interference, until the HT lead and spark plug were shielded. As an afterthought, I might have tried resistor plugs first, but being ignorant at he time, I did not, so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of resistor plugs.
The modern Electronic ignitions are all so well shielded, that you forget there might be problems. Murphy loves that, and just waits for his chance, so be careful out there.

I have run a G23 on a FourStar 120 and currently have a G26 on a Giant SpaceWalker. Both engines were run with resister plugs and I have never experienced any interference at all. Both of my radios are plain old FM. (One is Futaba and One is Airtronics) 15 years or so ago I owned a Giant Sweet and Low with a Quadra 35. It also had a resister plug and an old four channel Futaba Conquest radio with not a sign of interference. All of these engines are or were Mag Ignition. The G26 has just been converted to CH CDI, again with no hint of interference. None have any special shielding and the coil wire is standard issue non-shielded type. Maybe I am just lucky. On a side note I have had glitching from some of my electric birds although that is another story for another forum.

thanks for the response. i'm new at this, and i'm just poking around. i just started flying in september, iand i'm in the process of finishing a plane with a g26 zenoah. i'm using the new jr 7202 radio. thanks

Just make sure all of your connections are good and that your antenna is not running (or touching) any other wires or metal.
