engine selection

Hi, I am building a 28% Staudacher from Bruce Lund plans. I have been flying and building for 30 years but have little gas experience. What engine would you recommend for a 80.5" aerobatic model. For me cost is a major factor so will be looking for the best value not necessarily the most powerful engine. At this time, 3D with an aircraft of this size does not interest me but I do like to have some verticle performance. I also realize a model of this size will be flown on the wing more than my 40's. What size and where should I look. Thanks, Dave

For the money, and for the power, a Briellelli would be a good choice. So would a 3mm 53 that Wild Hare is selling. Whichever is the least expensive at 50cc plus would be a good selection. Both are relatively light. Both perform well. Neither are what would usually be considered expensive for a gas engine in this size. Your plane may not need to fly nearly as much "on the wing" as you think. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. Both engines are less expensive that the other "names" in the 50cc class. Both are reliable with good power and mid ranges.

Take a look at copperhead aviations venom 45cc,or even brillelli's 46 cc. Cant go wrong with either one,as i own both. Also have a fuji 43 on an 80inch omp edge,at a tic under 14lbs the thing is unstoppable, very happy with them all.
