3W-24 engine

The 3w-24 is the most powerful 24 cc made. It has the same power as a G-38 but only weighs 45+ oz rather than 80+ oz. I use this engine in my university research and I own 15 of them. I have run this engine many hours. It will turn an 18 x 8 at 8000 rpms. The torque peaks at ca. 7500 rpms so the best prop for sport flying is an 18 x 10 which the engine will turn at 7300-7500 rpms.

I have had excellent luck purchasing engines from Aircraft International in NJ. Check any model mag for the address and URL. Gerhard has provided me with excellent service. I have some engines pushing 100 hrs of full bore running and these engines are still turning 8K.

RE: 3W-24 engine

Hi Elson-

I am about to brake this engine in, which is already installed in a GP 120 Super stearman (ARF). Question:
Could I just burn 2-3 20 oz. fuel tanks and then fly it, or should I take it onto a stand?
And what kind of prop would you use to brake it in and which one to fly, I know now for your previous post that a 18X10 for sport f. will do it, but what brand?

Many thanks.

Enrique.
