Muffler Installation

Getting ready to mount my DA 50 in a new air frame and am going back to the stock DA muffler. My question is: the outlet on this muffler needs to be shortened to help taking the cowl off and on. Should I cut the exhaust pipe on the same angle as the cowl or straight across? How much will shortening this pipe affect the noise level. I will be taking a little over an inch off of it.
Thanks in advance.

Whack it off; and then after the cowl is on, place a short piece of tubing on the stub to keep exhaust out of your toy... similar to http://www.jtecrc.com/exhausttubing.htm

Fly safe, Glover

Thanks glover but that wont even come close to fitting the exhaust pipe on my DA. Not really the way I want to do it anyway.

Cut it off where you need it. Nothing will change.

Get silicone water heater hose at Napa auto parts or Delta rubber if you have a store close. It comes in sizes from 1/2" to 6"ID, Get the tripple ply if you can. Then cut your exhaust inside the cowl and slip it into a piece of hose to fit your exhaust. After cowl is on install the pipe piece Super easy cowl removal. Use zip ties to get a snug fit. Been using the stuff for years.

Guy,

After flying with you I've come to the conclusion that you're either the most practical person I've ever met or you were poor once. Either way you definately find the least expensive way to do things. Good job!

Have to be creative if you live 80 miles from the closest hobby store. Such as buying folding aluminum lawn chairs to get all those nice 90 degree bends and straits. I see a lawn chair as 4 aluminum headers:)
