G38 on electronic ignition

1 Attachment(s)
I would really like an electronic ignition for my G38, more power and less weight would be nice but it will cost me about $210 for the ignition, battery and switch,, $210 and I will loose only about 6 to 8oz, it will run better too but in the end I would have a undered powered motor that I have more money in than what it's woth, so I just don't think it's worth it,, maybe I would be better off selling the G38 and buying a Brison 40,, see my plane below..

comments please..

RE: G38 on electronic ignition

I had this same conversation yesterday and arrived at the same conclusion. The old G-38 is just what you said, not too powerful. The plus side is that they are hard to wear out and fairly easy to hand start even though they are a mag ignition.
I have one in a Ikon Monocoupe and find it a perfect match for that airframe.

For the Brown Racer I would certainly entertain the idea of the Brison or like engine and let the old G-38 make happy sounds in something else.

As a side note on the Brown it it is a B squared kit watch the wing center section as it will sometimes fold up in high g turns unless it has been reinforced or the flying wires are active.

Good Idea if you have a need for speed. Remember scale speed and that the Brown JR wasn't flying at 500mph like the Rare Bear and such like.
The G-45 is smaller and a little heaver and way more power, the Brison 2.4 is in between weight and power wise. Don't forget a FPE 2.4 also.
Search around RCU I think Aero Bob has a 40cc and 50cc compairson chart with REAL weights.

I'm not really interested in going faster, I'm sure the G38 will be enough power for this plane, I really just want to get it lighter, you know,,

as for my comment on the G38 being under powered, I just meant that I feel my motor is worth $200, so if I add the $200 ignition I will have a $400 motor that is under powered compared to other lighter $400 motors..

You want a powerful $400 engine, get a DL50...Same or more power as any other 50cc...
