Evolution 116CC starting

Hello guys,

I have an Evolution 116CC gasser (same as MVVS 116CC) and i was once told that i should never start it with choke closed, i.e. flick the prop with choke closed until it starts and quits, and then open choke and start (like with DA, 3W etc) since there is something about possibly damaging the Evolution's reed valves.

im absolutely not sure if this is correct, but so far i have been flicking it 10 times choke closed (ignition off), open ignition and choke and start, and while this works, the first method is easier and quicker.

is the first method indeed a problem with the Evolution 116CC ?

thanks.

MVVS at one time had a choke plate without small hole in it. In the instructions, they warned not to run with the choke closed. Some folks use the choke to stop an engine, and for this paticular carb/engine combo that was not a good idea, because it might damage the reeds.
For starting the later line of engines, there is nothing wrong with the standard closed choke starting procedure.

Pe, how can i find if my carb is suited for this or not ?

you don't have to.
Just use the start method that works best for you. If the choke plate has a small hole in it, you can even use the choke to stop the engine, which makes subsequent starts so much easier, like first flip.

do you have a pic of a choke plate with a hole so i could review how it should look ?

it either has a small hole in it, or it does not.
A hole is a small round thing, like you put a drill through the choke plate [8D]

Here is a pic, so this one is good to go with the regular "choke closed" starting right ?

That looks OK to me.
