3W Ignition modual

A good friend of mine sent his older 3W80 twin in to Aircraft Inter. for upgrade to the new ignition modual and general check up. He gave me the engine today to get me back flying again. Anyway I have had other 3W engines in the past but the new ignition mod. has a couple of extra sets of wires that I am not sure about. I know the RED/BLACK is battery, 3wire lead is from pickup, the question I have is about the other two sets of wires. One is black and black wire, the other is Yellow / Yellow with white stripe. I don't know which set Y/YW or B/B is for tach - LED light and what the other set goes to. Also will this modual require a regulated switch for a LiPo 7.4 down to 6 V or will it handle the straight voltage.

The yellow/white wires are for the tach. The other is for the LED. Both can be left unconnected. The tach is a nice feature to see how your engine/prop combination is doing in the air, as the tach will record the rpms for you and can be read after your flight.

Dan,

I've got one of these as well. Do you know where I can get info regarding the operation of the tach? I'm thinking about installing it and don't know how to use the recording feature. Thanks

The details on the tach aren't on the 3WModellmotoren website, but it's very simple. There is a push button switch included with the tach, you can select the function that would like to use with the switch. Fly the plane, operate the push button and read the rpm's. The Tach can be temporarily mounted or permanantley mounted using the included screws. Hope this helps.
