threaded stud ???????? for prop
 

anybody know where to get a grade 8 - 5/16 x 24 threaded stud to attach prop to engine?????
i have found bolts but the thread is not long enough.
i need 2 1/2 in. of thread.

Go to a good local fastener house, and get hi-strength threaded rod. I'm not sure why you feel the need for a grade 8 stud. I've used grade 5 all thread with no problems on gas engines. The combined fastener "joint" will only be as strong as the weakest component. If the stud goes into an aluminum prop hub, the threads will most likely pull out before the stud or threaded rod would break. My $.02

Have to disagree here with you. A bolt made from low grade steel can and will eventually snap. Happened to me on my Fuji 50. For some reason I replaced the stock bolt with a cheap one and one day (luckily I was standing behind the motor) the bolt head snapped and the prop came off when the motor was running at half throttle. The prop flew straight for about 50 yards before hitting a pile of dirt. The reason for this failure was simply too much stress for this type of steel.

Grade 5 is the typical ans bolt used in full size planes, cars etc.. Grade 8 is used to hold track shoes and rippers on dozers. Now if you want the best washer then grade 8 is the only way to go.
