Evolution 26
Well, i need some help figuring out these Gas engines. i'm new to them and have read so many different opinions on them.
First off, i'm planning on installing it in a CB Sukhoi Kit 72" version.(not quite done, but getting to the engine install very soon) i'm going with gas in this mainly because of cost of fuel, amount of fuel consumed versus the glow and clean up. i know this engine won't have as much power as a Saito 150 but i don't do any 3D flying, just basic aerobatic flying. Do these Evo engines come with a muffler? engine mount? and is a 5cell ignition battery needed or a 4cell? thanks guys for any info on helping me out! |
RE: Evolution 26
Do you mean the Carl Goldberg kit? If so, this would probably give you a little more than scale like power.

There are two very long threads on both the kit and ARF version of the Sukhoi. All are very good with a lot of information on this model.
A 1.20 four stroke is the minimum suggested engine, or about 20cc. |

RE: Evolution 26
A couple of guys have Saito 170R3s on theirs and that's what I have for my kit. It is rated as putting out the same HP as the Saito 1.20. Yes, this is cutting it close but those guys say theirs flies okay. Not really great, but good enough. I need to put the engine on something and this is what I have waiting to build.
Otherwise, I would say put something bigger on it and that is getting into gas territory. |

RE: Evolution 26
From what I can tell, the newer kits are the fourth revision. Yours must be one of the first kits but I would have to look that up to be sure. The wing design was changed and they have done a few things with the landing gear.
I don't know about the 1.50 over going gas myself. This is one of those borderline kits imo. Gas would certainly be nice on it though. |

RE: Evolution 26
Stick a Brillelli 36cc gas engine in the nose of that kit. Then you'll have a gasser with enough power to pretty much do as you please.

RE: Evolution 26
Even though I think a gas engine would be good for the kit, I wouldn't worry too much about the fuel economy on a Saito 1.50. This is a pretty economical engine once you get the needle valves set correctly.

I have this plane in the arf version I tried a 120 4stroke and it was not enough, then I tried a bcma26 still would not have very good vertical, for Christmas my wife bought me the brillelli 26ssr, Im trying to get it mounted this weekend, I can let you know the results, but it needs a light weight gas engine to balance thats why I did not try the brillelli 36.
