Evolution 26GX

Looks like they came out with another mark in the Evo 26 gasser line
http://i28.tinypic.com/4uh2qf.jpg

plug is on the side...what else is different. Why didn't they include a longer throttle arm?

Because then someone whould whine about the arm being too long, or in the wrong location.

The side mounted plug can be ordered as such, but is more expensive. It also can be ordered as an optional head/carb mouth package.

RE: Evolution 26GX

Also looks like Horizon isn't even offering the 26GT2 anymore. Why would the newer 26, with the exact same specs and the only difference being the head (and probably piston design) cost another $50.00? Now the same price as the 35GT2. I must be missing something here. Maybe they upgraded the ignition package too?

fritzdecat 02-18-2008 07:44 PM

RE: Evolution 26GX

They say something about the new ignition taking 2 cell lipos.... The GT2 can take two cell lipos ...

Maybe the Required Voltage changed???

MVVS prices have also raised significantly. I hoped rear exhaust and/or rear carb. Side carb only remings me about cheap China engines. Any pictures of the new MVVS 40ifs that replaces 35 in fall?

The odd thing is the side mounted plug likely is to take up less head space but I can find no where that they actually state the crank case to head measurement.
Poor PR.

Poor?
Just grabbed from the MVVS web pages:
[link=http://www.mvvs.cz/docMVVS/MVVS40.pdf]MVVS drawing[/link]

Ever saw DA publish their dimensions way before the engine was ready to market?

RE: Evolution 26GX

Lets see, 3 different MAJOR changes in the 26 cc in two years, or is it 4........ How many changes in the DA?

pe reivers 04-16-2008 05:27 PM

RE: Evolution 26GX

Apart from carb upgrades and ignition upgrades, which are not major changes, All moving parts still fit and are interchangable if you consider the prop drive washer as part of the ignition system.
MVVS now has made it's first major engine change after about 8 years. These engines will not have interchangable parts with previous engines.

RE: Evolution 26GX

Apart from carb upgrades and ignition upgrades, which are not major changes,
Pe,
The ignition system off the first generation 26cc will not fit the GT2 or vice-versa. The old engine was 4.8volts, ignition was changed to 7.2volt. The GT2 version was a replacement for the failed first version. The GT2 version has been out how long? And now it is replaced. The success of the DA is that it runs out of the box and does what it is advertised to do. ( I have 2 of them and fixing to buy the 85cc.) In the states, products are judged by real world use and durability as well as reliability, not by bragging about the posting of stats before a product is even produced.

RE: Evolution 26GX

are you talking MVVS or mixing them all together in the same cup and adding horizon color rebrands to the "major" MVVS changes?
Ignition changes are not major, but are upgrades of an ancillary to the same old engine. Horizon had their own ignitions made, and even now have a different version of the ICU types.
MVVS also had a Major color change when they went from neutral to read heads. Of course it also is a major change when the plug size goes from 14mm to 10mm thread. Not to forget the day when they changed the pressure pulse line from black neoprene to clear tubing.

You seem to forget the major DA upgrade of their early engines, where the connecting rods failed, and their lean top end issues. I also know at least one engine in my close environment that did not run all that well right out of the box, but that also happens to OS and other brand engines.

The title of this thread is Evolution 26GX. I didn't see any MVVS in the title, you are the one who claimed the engine.

Interesting.

Just like the Evolution

No i haven't forgotten. The point is that Desert Aircrafts service is second to none, and the quality is second to none. Desert Aircraft is the benchmark for Gasoline engines in this hobby, all engines are compared to Desert Aircraft, you even did that in this thread.

I just bought the 26GX and expect it 4/18/08. Putting it on a SIG 4 Star 120. JR's 120 all around. 2.6.....Baby, Baby...I'll keep you posted. John It's all in the eye of the beholder

I know this post is old but I just order the GX26 and am putting it on a Sig Rascal 110, I will be swinging 18X6 on it.
Did have a question on break-in? For the people that have it what oil mixture did you use ? did you start out with a petroleum base first like lawnboy @ 32:1 and then go to 50:1 synthedic after gal or so ?

Just wondering how the rest has don it as I dont want to make a mess out of such an expensive eng

Thanks for any responce.

Jeff

I used lawn boy at 32:1 at breakin and then stuck with it. The engine runs fine this way and is better off.
You will find it runs a bit hot and this helps it.

Jeff, they are calling for synthetic oil. Just read the break-in directions and you'll be fine. John

The engine needs at least a 30-grade oil, or 10 cst at 100C.
Lawnboy is a very thin oil specified at 165 SUS (saybolt), which is about a 15 grade oil. Waaaay too thin for the 26cc engine.

Evolution has their own brand of syn oil. Ck it out. John

RE: Evolution 26GX

Evolution oil has always been Mobil 2t full synth racing oil. Mobil is common oil in this side of globe and can be bought from almost every store/petrol station.

Jeff,

Care to share your experiences with your G26?

Thanks,

Frank, Follow the directions that come with the engine and you'll be fine. I did have a hard time starting my 26, during break-in, but, once it started, it's run like a dream. Starts 2nd flip of the prop. Don't use anything but syn oil. John

RE: Evolution 26GX

Not sure if anyone is still out there on this engine. I picked up a 26gt without instructions, and what I got off the Horizon site didn't really tell me what batteries to use with this engine. I prefer nimh, but I don't know the requirements. Is it 6.0 volts? Is this the default setting? My ignition is missing the "jump plug" and the led. I am not a fan of lipo's, but what C rating is required? Do I have to reprogram the ignition for the lipo?

pe reivers 08-25-2012 09:03 AM

RE: Evolution 26GX

use 6 NiMH cells for the ignition
do not program but use as-is
current draw is low, so 1200 mAh for the battery will be fine.
Apart from horizon, MVVS engine manuals can be downloaded at www.mvvs.cz
