Fiber Optic Kill Switch For Gas Engines

1 Attachment(s)
Just a note to let you guys know about a great product I just installed in my 36% Edge 540. I have a Brison 6.4 in the plane and needed a way to kill the power to the ignition from my transmitter.

Well, I found a product by ELECTRO DYNAMICS, INC. The product is the EDR-107 Fiber Optic Kill Switch System.

The installation is very simple and only takes about a half hour or so. No additional servo is required and it weighs very little.

Check out the web site at: www.electrodynam.com

I will try and attach a photo.

The IMAA requires a remote ignition switch to fly gasoline engines.

Let me know your experiences if you already own one of these!!

Thanks, and keep the wheels down on your landings.

Remote kill switch

That is a really good switch and a good solution to the IMAA rule...but the rule is there must be a remote way to kill the engine, which does not mean it has to be a switch. The ability to kill it with the throttle meets the rule, as would a remotely activated choke.

BTW, there is a long thread on the SA list(mini-iac group on Yahoo groups) right now if you want all the opinions you could want on this issue and more.

EDR-107 Optic Shut off

I have the same switch on my 33% CAP w/ZDZ 80, great switch. I am concerned about the Infra Red (led or diode) emitter though. If it should fail it will kill the engine. Not a problem necessarily unless your hovering low to the ground.

I found the best way to a kill switch, was to install a choke servo along with the throttle servo inder the hood.

You get to choke the engine with your fingers out of harms way, and should you need to kill the engine just put full choke.
By using Fiber Optic servo extensions, I don't have to worry about any feed back to the receiver. I also feed those servos from the ignition battery.
