Does this look secure????

My da 50 came with the 2.5" standoffs and I needed to move it out another 3/4" does this method look safe?

RE: Does this look secure????
John,
Gas engines, have an amazing ability to shake things loose. If it was mine, I would spend the money for longer single-piece standoffs rather than stacking various spacers and washers. I think it will pay you back in reduced problems. Greg |

Hey John I have just fairly recently mounted my DA 50. I also neede the engine out some more, but I would not trust that set up. Just make some 1/2 in hardwood spacers or buy some purpose made that length then make a second fire wall out of 1/4 AC Ply, then mount the engine to the second wall. Mine has been rock solid. Kevin

Or you could use a drill and a small hole saw and cut out 4 disks out of 3/4" plywood and epoxy them to the firewall. That would be the strongest overall. It works great, I've done it on my DA 100s.

RE: Does this look secure????
If you felt the need to ask if it's secure you already know the answer. Better by far to find another method that either eliminates the stand offs completely or only uses the 3/4" part.

ORIGINAL: John Mason My da 50 came with the 2.5" standoffs and I needed to move it out another 3/4" does this method look safe? To be direct,, NO that does not look stable enough,, too much flexing and this could lead to a problem. I would do as others suggest add ply or hardwood standoff's to the fire wall then mount. Happy Flying. |
RE: Does this look secure????
I would follow the advice of Crashproof.....Fairly simple to construct and mount.....I have similar set ups on larger gas engines with no problems after dozens of flights..... |
RE: Does this look secure????
Go to Lowes and get a couple packs of the 3/8" nylon spacers in the hardware department. Stack two of 'em to get your 3/4". They are wide enough to give a good footprint and they will make exactly the spacing you need.
Cost <$2. Jon |
