Great Planes kill switch

I need help installing the great planes ignition kill switch to a Fuji BT-34B. I'm a newbee and I need all the[sm=drowning.gif] help I can get. Thank you.

very simple.
for the engine there is 2 wires - usually BLK and RED.
BLK is the ground wire which connected to engine body/frame and the RED which "leads" the current from the magneto to the capcitor and from there to spak plug.

2 ways of using the KSW.
with the micro SW NC(normaly close) or just withthe regular on/off SW

the main conceot is to control;l the power/current to the capaitor meaning if the circuit is closed than u will get a spark all times the engine truning, the second you have open the circuit on pwoer to the spark plug' hence no spark - engine cut!!!

the KSW have 2 featurs, SW ON OFF and a NC SW that can assmebled inline to the TH servo so while you go the the TH cut endpoint the servo arm will hit the NC SW and will open the ciruit.
the other SW is inline to the NC SW - this is for saftey reasons so while you on the ground iven when your radio is off u can still start the engien becaus eit have its own generaotr - magneto!!!

hope that help on some way:)

wellcome to the GAS world!

Hey Gadix, thank you for the info. I'm putting together the great planes giant super sportster with a spektrum DX 7 radio. I have two more questions to ask. I figured out where to install the ground wire but for the red wire, would it go on top of the ATM of the Fuji BT-34B? My second question is should I even hook up the servo kill switch? I have a fail safe that I can program in the DX 7 and I keep a constant check on my battery voltage. Once again, thank you the info.

Yes, there is a 'prong' that comes out of the ATM. Connect the red wire there. Remember, when the switch is 'open' the engine is live. When the switch is 'closed' the charge the magneto creates is grounded - hence no spark. I didn't install a servo activated kill switch. I just use the throttle cut function to kill it, unfortunately, the DX7 doesn't have a dedicated cut button.

Unfortunately not. I am currently building a Haffke 1/4 scale R-2 though. ;)

Thank you Mr. King for your great input. Being a newbee at this I feel as though I'm an expert at this now. You guys are great. Thanks Mr. King and Gadix for your help.

Hello, There is also another way you can hook up the switch. What you do is use the switch to cut into the power from your ignition battery. Just splice the red wire coming from your battery and put the red from the switch on one side and the black on the other side, this will in turn cut power to your engine. When the servo operated switch is activated it will also cut power to your ignition. I have found that this is a better setup then the others mentioned because it directly affects the power from the battery. Given there is not one right way to do something it is just personal preference.</p>
