Muffler
Hi,
I am new to gassers and will be buying my first DA 50 and I am looking for mufflers. I was thinking about a pitts style muffler. I do have a few questions though. 1. Any body had any experiences with the Silent Beauty Mufflers? 2. On the site it says I need to bracket the muffler to the engine box? Is that neccessary. I am posting a link to the site and the muffer is the 8th one down on the screen. http://troybuiltmodels.com/Mufflers.htm Tell me what you think.....Thanks, rc-plane |

RE: Muffler
A muffler is a muffler. The names are designed to sell product, but in truth just about all the "mufflers" are slightly better than exhaust diverters. They knock down the noise a little, but only a little. It takes cans or tuned exhaust systems to truly reduce noise levels.
As for supporting the muffler with an aditional bracket, it's a very good idea and could save you re-tapping the exhaust flange threads or replacing a head entirely. I heartily recommend it. Oh, patience is a virtue. 20 minutes from question to the next inquiry isn't really very long;) Less than an hour for an answer is doing pretty good. |

I posted that yesterday

RE: Muffler
I think I would call troy built and ask them about these mufflers. I have ordered from them before they are nice folks to deal with. My observation is that they look as if they are soldered together and would benefit from a bracket or clamp like the johnson mfflers require.
