BME 115 fixes

What is the latest on the fixes for the 115, I know there was a reed block fix and a modified carb fix for the mixture changes. IF I buy a new 115 are the fixes in place or do I have to modify to get the problems cured? Are the modified parts available if they are not on a new engine?

Thanks

WRK

If you by a new engine it will have the fix. I have seen one run with the factory fix and it is awesome. Contact BME @ http://www.bmeengine.com/

RE: BME 115 fixes

The last conversation I had with Tom of BME, a couple of weeks ago, indicated that to date only one retrofit kit had been made and shipped to an individual in Texas. Perhaps that's changed and they are finally in production.

Since I have engine #002 of the 115 series, and after waiting over a year and a half to run the damn thing due to a design error, I'm really looking forward to someone doing something...soon. Worst $1,200.00 I've ever spent since selling it (still brand new and not run) would be at a severe loss due to the reed issues.

So Andy, we've all heard all the great things that were going to happen. But when are they going to happen? With the market as it is, unless something happens soon a lot of well made, new, 100+cc designs will be hitting the market making the competiton for the sales dollar pretty tough. At the moment I haven't seen any indications that the new BME differs all that much from the old.

last i read was he had been actived by the guard have u called andy?

RE: BME 115 fixes

I spoke with Tom shortly after the Guard activation. I do something similar myself several times a year but still manage to get the work done.

I don't believe I'm being grumpy at all. Had I invested that sam $1,200.00 into something else it would have been safely flyable out of the box. Had I left the money in a savings account it would have accrued interest. Either way something useful would have been obtained from the capital. Agreed, Keith was the person that marketed a defective design after making assurances that he would not market an engine unless it had been completely flight tested, but the new guys made statements that they would market a fix by May and had already started accepting funds to cover postage of the part. No, I did not send in any money yet, but then again, why should I? They fix hasn't been made yet except for one instance. I'm even willing to pay for the full cost of the part but there's none to be bought.

So I still have the second engine made and sold and I'm still waiting to make use of it. I'm soon to take off again for a few months and if the fix is not available with an e-mail waiting for me relating that when I return the engine will join the ranks of some other engine products. Pretty, but generally useless and sitting in the wood shed.

Truthfully, if you're making a statement that you are going to do something, follow through and get it done. If you don't follow through you lose all credibility.

RE: BME 115 fixes

The new reed blocks are available from BME. Ive been flying one with the new reed block for several months and after tuning it in , it has ran flawlessly ! They also have a new aluminum block that uses the engine heat to completely evaporate all of the fuel that may get trapped in the reed block. they are around $75 . Every new engine has the redesigned plastic reed block.

So send me one already!

RE: BME 115 fixes

Me too!

If what LLundstedt is saying is true then someone at BME (and there are only two of them) was lying to me two or three weeks ago when I spoke with them for close to 45 minutes. I was told that the reed assemblies are not yet available. Now I know that Altavillan sent them a check quite some time ago (about a month and a half) for one of the reed assemblies and he hasn't received one either. If they've had them but just aren't shipping them while accepting money that's a different thing altogether.

Sorry bud, but if they actually had it, they would flaunt it. There was a long song and dance about hang ups with machine shops, drawings, parts shortages from the company transfer, outstanding debt incurred by the original BME, and a whole barrel full of woes regarding why the reed assemblies and other components had not been produced yet. Once again, according to Tom at BME, he had only made one so if you've been flying one for a couple of months I'd like to see it and learn why I was lied to. If I had been lied to at all, which I doubt.

I've been patient for over a year and a half. I think that's more than enough so let's not talk about waiting just a little longer. If they have their act together they will put all everyone needs to know about what's available and delivery times in the various forums for all to read. And yes, now I'm beginning to get a little irritated.

So, will the real story of what's going on at BME please come to the surface. Inquiring 115 owners want to know. Better still, they deserve to know.

am looking to buying one of these for a H9 Extra 330 33%....is that a bad idea? should stick with DA100??

i would still buy one but its your money your call u know:)

is a full pound lighter than DA100 and same HP....what gives makes me wonder (same price also)

RE: BME 115 fixes

Don't get a new 115, you'll look silly with that stupid grinn plastered to your face. Then concider the fact that the H9 wings get blown off with DA100's and yer concidering putting a much stronger engine in there.

yea, been doing some readin in here and almost everyone recommends a DA-85 for the H9 Extra330 am looking at

The DA-100 will fly out of the box. The new ones are stronger (200rpm) and lighter (6oz). Not as strong or light as the 115, but that is a price I am willing to to pay for reliability and service.

The new 115 that incorporates the induction fix would be a good purchase decision. Those of us with the original versions seem to be stuck holding the bag....

RE: BME 115 fixes

I am leaning to getting one of these vs. DA100......seems lighter and more HP and relatively priced, everyone seems to have DA100 so I wouldnt mind trying something new for a change......how do I know if I but a new one it will have all the fixes (induction, etc) required?
any issues as compared to DA100?

RE: BME 115 fixes

Evan if the fixes are perfect. And they should be because a few of us have made our own induction modifications and sent pics and spec's to the new owners. It is not a plug and play engine. Careful attention to cooling, baffling, needle adjustments and timing must be taken. Till I hear differently WOT runs need to be monitored carefully or too much egt will build up and cause some harm. My engine is near perfect and wildly powerful. I can do WOT runs forever because I put the choke on a servo and have it set to close down at WOT to draw absolute max fuel flow which keeps it nice and cool. Cannisters on a very short header help tremendously to achieve cooler running while at the same time produce power not seen in anyother engine made.
Don't personaly know how the fixes are working. Still waiting for a reed block fix to compare it to mine, from them myself.
If it causes you problems post here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_54...tm.htm#5488430
If it runs real good start a new post and tell us how good it runs. Either way I've posted lots of info and pics and would be more than happy to post the pics and how too's to make it run correctly.

RE: BME 115 fixes

Supposedly with the new reed block fix they are using the WGA9 carb. With that carb you "shouldn't" have to worry about WOT runs. That was the original carb on the 115, which I feel was much easier to tune and had almost no detectable burble when rolling. Now if you have a 3 needle carb no worries, but it does have 3 needles and two needles give some people enough troubles to begin with:)
Altivillians fixes work extremely well too, I've seen how they perform in the air. I would really like to try one of the BME fixes when they are available.

I've been flying the H9 33% Extra on a DA100 for a year and a half. Put over 600 flights on it, and it came in at 25 lb. 11 oz. or so. Insane power, but do yourself a favor and drop an DA85 in this bird. You'll have much better wing loading, and just as good vertical performance. I've since yanked all the gear out and put it in a 36% PAU Edge. Now there's a plane for the DA100. :D 26 lbs. or so, with 2125 sq. in. of wing. I still have the Extra airframe, and it gets a DA85 sometime down the road......

First time I post, how did you stop BME115 leaking. Keith put Orings on front and rear housing but both engines still leaks a lot and do'nt like dirty oily engine.

The one thing that I have never seen a 115 do was to leak,
