Engine help

I have a 80" Midwset Extra 300
I am switching over to gas... on a budget.
I am thinking a new XYZ 50(EI) $250, FTL52 (EI) $200, or a used US engines 43cc (Magneto) for about $100 less

What thoughts does everyone have on these???

Thanks

The magneto adds alot of weight, the way i look at it you get what you pay for, there are so many cheaper engines out there and many are also really nice and run well without breakdowns, even many of the cheaper engines also have the three crank bearings and that to me is a must and well worth it in the long run. Also look around as there are alot of nice engines out there different brands that are not real expensive and run well, look around for a second hand DA-50 you cannot go wrong with them engines, they have been out for years and is the best engine on the market today and has proven it over and over again, been in the winners circle now for many years as well, i bought the DA-50 and i would buy no other, but that is just me and i would not put down other engines, it is your choice and be happy with what you have.

I agree with Pilot 727, the DA-50 is a good & dependable engine. I put it in a 30% extra and have been pleased with its performance. I have 56 flights on it and never a glitch. It is pricey but look for a used one.

Get an engine with an electronic ignition (EI)...........Once you go gas you won't go back

The DL50 is gathering quite a following and there are several good reports about it's performance. You can do a search here and read what users have to say about it. An option that several people seem to shy away from but remains an excellent choice is to buy a second hand engine, and in your case a DA or equivalent might just fit the bill. Saves you the hassle of breaking-in or just for the hell of it you can fit a new ring and start over.

I dont know bout that but them DA engines just keep on going and flying right past the shop, maybe in another ten years it may need a tune up or a knew plug.

Isn't a used DA 50 around $400.00?
That is a lot more than the $250 I was looking at.
I fly approx 4-8 times a year. I wasn't looking to get the best, just something to throw in the Extra.
I ordered a Perry pump for the Moki to see if that makes life better...
Are the Chinese engines that bad?
