Best 2 cycle engine oil?

Hi,

I have a Zenoah G-62 and a 3W 200cc gas engine and want to know what 2 cycle oil is recommended by you for them to last longer and run stronger? Does anybody use over the counter oil like Penzoil or other well known brand names? If not where is the best place to order the oil from and what brand? Reponses would be appreciated because I am ready to test run my G-62.

Thank You,

Barry/1st time gas engine user

Pennzoil Air Cooled at 40:1. Pick it up at Farm and Fleet. Burns clean.

The penz air-cooled can also be found at advance auto parts.

Of couse everyone here is very opinionated and runs their own "best oil". These type threads often turn into bickering sessions and breakdown quickly.

I like the penz air-cooled and husqvarna XP in my planes, because they are "THE BEST", but not everyone here has fallen in behind my way of thinking yet.

I will now get the popcorn and watch the fun unfold :D

rcdude7,

We don't have an advance auto parts. Maybe Farm and Fleet like mrbigg said or NAPA and Auto Zone. Heres one of my Corsairs that I'm using the 3W 200cc 20 Hp engine in. Both planes are Corsairs but the monster is 1/4 scale scratch built from Don Smith plans. 121.5" wingspan. The other is a Top Flite Giant Corsair from their kit but modified a bunch. It's just in the beginning stages so I won't bore you with a picture but thats where the G-62 will go. I hope to finish the TF Giant by next summer and the Monster by 2010. Lots of mods on it including lights.

Some alternate choices. All work well at ratios between 40 and 50-1 in both of your engines. You already know about the Pennzoil at 32 to 40-1. BelRay H1R up to 40-1, BelRay MC-1 at 50-1. Redline Two Stroke Racing Oil at 50-1. Motul 800 at 50-1. Redline, Motul, and Bel Ray products can be found at motorcycle shops. Stihl Ultra at 50-1. Echo two stroke oil up to 40-1. There are more but their names escape me at the moment.

Asking for "the best" oil is like asking which is prettier, blond or brunette. You'll never get an absolute answer. There are a lot of good oils when used at reasonable ratios. Long term trouble begins when the ratios become excessively lean, From 70 to 1 upwards. Some will debate that the preceeding is not always true and some would be correct. Depends a lot on how you run and treat an engine. Some that engage in that debate haven't had an engine long enough to validate their assessments. One thing's for sure, you can't hurt an engine by using a little more oil in the fuel mix.

They make more power that way, too. Of course, YMMV.;):D

I use over the counter havoline at 30:1 - 40:1 for years on both gas and coleman and have never had a problem.

By the way the 4th pic looks like a gost pic. Like in horror movies

Like some others here, I've been very happy with Pennzoil, at 40:1. It is one of the very good oils that is readily available, inexpensive, and appears to have produced nothing but good reports from all that have used it.

I forgot about Fuchs two stroke oil that you may have available in your area. Another good one.

This is what I bought at Advance Auto Parts which I didn't know we had here in Janesville. But I found it in the yellow pages. Plus it's only 5 minutes from my house/shop. Here is a picture of it. I hope this is what you mean by Pennzoil Air Cooled. I am planning on using premium gasoline at a little over 93 octane. Is this OK and do I need to watch out for any additives in the gas?

just stick with 85-87 octane. most engines are made for cheap fuel, never noticed any preignition in any small engines running 87.

i've run penzoil,lawn boy,havoline,echo,redline,amsoil.
reg. oil
i run 32/1 ,break-in.
40/1 after.
same results, after several gallons of penzoil the engine is really clean. lawn boy seemed to carbon up a bit, and spit out the exhaust more than others.

using 100/1 amsoil sabre on my DA-50 for 4 gals now, havent had an issue.
mostly just stick with what the manufacturer says and you'll be ok.

RE: Best 2 cycle engine oil?

Any of the available pump gas octane levels will be fine. If you prefer the premium ni biggie but the 62 won't gain any additional benefit from it.

Bacon Grease mixed at 20:1 :D

I've heard that bacon grease causes the bearings to make a strange noise kind of like an "oink-oink".
The better solution is to run "Bar and Chain Oil", as it is thick enough to make up for all the slop in the carburetor parts, and helps the rings seal more permanently.... :D:D

Hi,

You also mentioned a 3w engine which needs at least 89 octane. I always use 92. You will usually see an RPM increase with 3W when you use the higher octane over 87.

That is it. I seem to think our local store also has this in the 8oz bottles.

RE: Best 2 cycle engine oil?

You're right Elson. I failed to include the 3W in the group. Due to that the use of the premium fuel would definately be a benefit to te 3w, while the G-62 would not either gain or lose. Go with the premium and only carry one fas container.

You'll note I'm not entering the oil fray, especially relating to specific brands or hard ratios this time[8D]
