I have an Evolution 35 that I need to modify or change the muffler I have an evolution muffler that doesn't fit under the cowl it's too wide and the angle of the canister hits the firewall Anyone know of other options I can try It's going in a Giant Scale Spitfire

I managed to cram an evo 35 with rear mounted pitts muffler in a H-9 Mustang. Mount the engine rails, slide the engine back with the muffler attached, get out your moto-tool and remove whatever is in the way. Reinforce whatever areas you can and build a box of wood around the back of the muffler. Fuelproof everything when you are done. Go slowly and remember, it's hard to put the pieces back if you do it wrong.

I have the same engine in a Hangar-9 P-51 150 as well, can you tell us which muffler you have now? There are a couple of different ones out there (mostly bissonmufflers.com) or if you have an unlimited budget you can go to keleo-creations.com and he'll make you anything you want. (I have one of his for my Saito 182 twin that is very good).

To get the best from an MVVS/Evolution 35 you should fit a pipe/cannister not a pitts or wrap around they stiffle the exhaust and restrict power, you could gain up to 1000rpm by getting rid of the cannister and putting a pipe on it.

For a scale project, all that power is of secondary concern. Main issue is how to cram the largest possible engine in those confined spaces. More cc is more torque to pull large scale-like props. Climb angle of the Spit needs to be 45° at best.
Still, the engine needs to shift back as far as managable, and a prop extension must be added, so the carb will clear the cowl lines. A Mk V Spit in desert trim would be the way to go in my book.
For a muffler, a steel pipe section with front and back covers (alu) will do, if made into a motor mount. Weight up front is needed anyway. If it has to be made, it is likely to be a bit more expensive than the 3271 side muffler, but the results are so much more rewarding.
