US 41 Electronic ignition conversion
 

I have a US 41 cc engine I would like to convert to electronic ignition. Who or where would be the best place to send it to have this done?

Let us know what you find out. I told a guy at our local field to contact CH about having his US-41 converted. He told me the other day that they didn't have anything. Now he was looking for someone to do the conversion, so they may have the parts but not specifically to that engine.

But I'm not sure if Ralph is still going to be doing stuff. He was quite upset about something the other day on another forum and saying he was going to quit. That would be a loss to the RC community, but he may have changed his mind????

You might also try [link=http://dandbengines.com/ignitions.html]Ridge Machine[/link], I think they made a CDI version of the US 41 some time ago. They still sell ignitions. Remember that US Engines is just another way to Quadra.:D

Call Terry or Bill at CH ignition 307 857 6897.
They don''t show anything specific for the 41 but I'm sure Terry can make up a hub and sensor bracket if he has your engine.

We can do a US 41 just not right now. I was gone for 2wks when my Dad passed away. We are now way behind at CH and it will well into Jan before we get caught up

I have a US engine 41cc, and recently broke off the coil. I was thinking that conveting to a CDI ignition would be better than tossing this engine into the dumpster. Is there a conversion kit out there, or is someone able to convert this for me? How much? Thanks.

I had the same experience. Very early in the life of my US41 and without any crash damage. I got the conversion from CH and it was an easy install. Probably the toughest part is pulling the original flywheel (got puller?). The guys at CH are a bundle of help if you need it. I have been very satisfied with the end result. Don't forget to remove the spring starter!

I'll give them call today. What type of airplane are you flying with the US 41cc enigne? Mine is installed in a Great Planes 25% YAK-54. I'm wondering if it will do any 3D with that engine and with the CDI ignition. Thanks!

A CDI ignition is the best, but I fixed my Quadra by buying another coil for $19.95. I've been told that the Quadra is about the same as a US Engines. The coil had a manufacturer's name and model on it. I went to the web and searched it out.

The problem I think huntley and I had was that the mounting bosses broke off the engine case. A new coil was not the solution, at least that was so in my case (sorry for the pun). A new case was going to cost me about as much as the conversion, plus I would have had to go in and do a complete engine teardown and reassembly. The CH system was a no brainer.

My 41 has spent time in a 1/3 scale Cunningham designed Druine Turbulent (low fat winged open single place home-build type from the '50s) and a Nosen 1/4 scale L-4 Cub. Sorry, I can't spell 3D, much less fly it. Could not comment, except that the power to weight ratio of the US41 is not close to that available on the current market. A good solid engine, but no powerhouse.

I have a flying buddy with a Druine Turbulent with a US41. I have flown it many times. His even has all the scale cables and pulleys for the flight controls. Has the wing slots and all.

I'm sending the US41cc engine to CH for the new ignition system. The conversion is $130 plus $40 labor and $15 shipping. When I get the engine back, I'll keep in my storage for another project. In the meantime, I purchased a Fuji 43EI for the 25% Yak as this is what Great Planes suggest for this model. Thanks everyone for the awsome replies.

I would love to see that one! Mine is a bit more 'sport scale' without the leading edge slots, but it is a very friendly flyer as is. The full scale proto-type I 'copied' did not have external control cables that I remember. Being a home-build design, I suppose it was up to the individual constructor.
