Zenoah G20ei Installation
 

The G20ei instructions say bolt the engine directly to the firewall. This is my first gas engine installation, so please keep this in mind. The installation seems pretty straight forward, but don't I have to incorporate some right thrust?

There was also some mention of after market ignition, as the stock one likes to suck up the juice. Is this still a problem? If so, could someone please give me a link to where I can purchase one, I would appreciate it.

Zenoah has done nuttin about it.[:@] Order a C & H ignition plug and play igniton kit. It is very easy to convert. The g20 is an awesome engine, but by the time you buy it, and then buy another ignition. You could have bought a 50cc engine.:(

There is nothing wrong with the ignition, you just need a large battery.

Your plane will likely already have right thrust built into the motor box/firewall. If not, and you are going to experiment with adding some...you can make a ply/hardwood shim to run the bolts through as a spacer that also accomodates some right thrust. The idea about mounting right to the firewall is to give the engine's rear case rigidity, rather than risk damage easier if standoffs were used.

I think most folks are converting their ignitions over to a CH unit...so they can just be done with it....but some others are running lightweight A123 cells, to get away with carrying more power on hand for the hungry system, without carrying the extra weight.

That's all excellent advice and as Chad suggested although an added expense, replacing the stock ignition with a DIY plug and play CH system or one from RC Ignitions is most times the preferred long term solution to the power hungry problem of the Zen.

Why would someone want to buy an engine that is intended to replace a .60-90, to inturn have to carry a deepcycle battery to make it run. I have one, that I converted, and run a 1,000 mah pack all day long. There is no way I will ever look back. Infact when I ordered two new engines the other day, I decided to pass on the G20, because I do not like the idea of a 339.00 dollar engine, that I have to inturn stick another 100.00 in to it to make a real viable combination.:eek:

Hi Motorman,

You should shop around (or should I say be in the right place at the right time). I have picked up two 20ei's for $250.00 each NIB at Flea Markets. They are safely stored away in their boxs right over top the Saito 125 which I traded for with you (which I also have not used).

Sorry, but one can never have to many G20-ei's, that's like having a car that's to fast, or a girl friend that's to pretty.
In other words I have plans for both of them, one is the World Models P-47 (72 in.) and the other is the old Goldberg Stinson Station Wagon ARF. Still kicking around the C&H ignition or going with a Lipo.

Talking G-20's how would you rate it power wise to the Saito 125 ot the old 120?????

Switch the ignition, you will never regret it. I can fly all day long on a 1,000 mah AA reciever pack. The C & H ignition draws 1/6 the current. It also does not reach 170 degree's like the Zenoah. It is no warmer than a reciever.:D:D
Zenoah is the only engine on the market with such a crappy (power hungry) ignition. It for sure steered me away this time around.;)

Can't help but agree with you on the ignition bit MM37, but the G20 is such a sweet little engine that I did not mind taking the plunge for a RC exl ignition from Ralph considering all the benefits.

If I had to I would do it all again as the G20 suits my needs right down to the ground, as I only have travelling space for 60-90 size models and I have no intention of going back to the expensive to run and messy glow engines.

Thanks for all the great advice. I already own the G20ei, so its not going anywhere. I was actually thinking of buying another. But the rcgf is looking mighty attractive at 214.00. I picked up a TF Corsair 98% built. I was thinking of putting the engine on it. Then I saw the TF AT-6 ARF, and now I will probably buy it tomorrow. Which means I need another 20cc gasser. By the way, could someone please post a link to where I can purchase the new ignition for my G20ei?
