DL Versus DA
is DL-50 as good as DA-50 according to:
1- Reliability. 2- Vibration. 3- Sensitivity to throttle changes. Thanks in advance! |

You're opening a big can of worms. IMO the DL wins in two of the three categories, better in one of them. DL has not been there long enough to determine reliability/longevity but all indications are that it may will be.

I did not know there are worms inside this bottle :) What about ZDZ engines! I have a choice between the 3 (DL-50, DA-50 and ZDZ 60 ) on an 87" SD YAK.. Of course DL is the cheapest. ZDZ is heavest I guess. And DA is the one with all the well-known history. |

I have a DA that is 14months old with 4 gallons of gas thru her, and has been back to DA twice for WARRANTY work. I for one have not been happey with it's performance, but who knows putting it back on for the third time might be the charm. reeds bad, carb block leaking, carb bad.etc.
I have DA50, CRRC 50i, ZDZ50 , Brillelli 46, Area51cc, and my favorite IMO best value for the money is the AREA 51, it outpulls the DA right out of the box |

The best performance to be obtained with the ZDZ will be after it has a tuned exhaust system. The DA is a good benchmark engine but mid range reliability has been a long standing issue. Nobody beats DA customer service. Not yet anyway. The DL is pretty much a copy pof the DA with the mid range issue corrected.

The general knowledge and opinion about gas engine is that if you treat them right they should outlast the owner. Although that might be a bit exaggerated, the truth is that with a little common sense and a feeling for technology any of the motors mentioned above probably will serve you well for a long time. There are certainly a few bad apples in the growing basket of (Chinese built) gas motors. But those have been identified and warned about to stay away from. Those are distinguished by a suspiciously low price tag. The rest is pretty much in the same price range and certainly well worth the investment. Now if you want to compare a DA to a DL then you face not only one question. First is the price. Say, a DA-50 with muffler runs you about $660 + shipping. A DL-50 will cost you only $390 RTR, shipping included. That is quite a difference, if you ask me. Granted, the DA has a beautiful CNC-machined crank case and red anodized? bolts. Yoop-Dee-Doo ;). O.K. what else would warrant that big price difference? Service, maybe? I don't know. I heard that Bob at DLUSA is very responsive, when it comes to customer service. So, what else could justify the purchase of a DA. O.K. I know now, it's 100% made in the US. Is it really? On the igniton box it says "Made in Australia" And the spark plug is made in Japan. What else is made elsewhere? Quality? There are numerous problems reported with DA's and very few about DL's. I guess what it boils down to is the question what is it really worth in dollar and sense. Recently I bought a DL, simply becasue I did the math and read enough good, and only good, comments about this motor to justify the purchase. Am I sceptical? Not really, because I know how to tread a motor the right way and by doing so I also know this motor should last me for quite a while. We shall see;)

If I had only gotten into this hobby about 6 months later I would have 2 DL's instead of 2 DA's. I bought a DA 50 a few months before the DL 50 was available. It seems to run fine sometimes, then cuts off at the most inopportune times. I have crashed two 50cc planes because of this thing and recently ripped the landing gear off another. It was recently back to DA to repair leaking carb block issues. Unexpectedly they also replaced the piston and top end bearing. Even though it was under warranty they wanted to charge me for the piston and bearing. After the repair is when it shut off agian in flight. I was too far out, causing me to land in the cotton field and rip out the landing gear. I will give it one more shot and try a carb rebuild kit. If this doesn't work then it is going in the recycle bin. At least it will be put to good use as a beer can or something:).
On the other hand I have a DA 100 that runs great. I have not had any issues with it. Just my luck shortly after I bought it the DL 100 was announced[>:]. |

Hi,
I have a DL 50 flown for about 2 gallons. I now have started getting a problem on the mid range of the throttle in which there is an oscillation in the rpm only at about 40% throttle. It is so intense that it makes the model almost unflyable. At idle and at higher throttle there is no problem. Please can someone help me with this issue |
