IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
I have just started mounting my RCGF 26 and it too, is going to have the rear mounted carbsticking through the firewall. It seems like most of the rear mounted carbs DO NOT GIVE YOU A TEMPLATE TO DRILL THE HOLES.
IS it asking too much to include a piece of cardboard with 4 little holes in it??? Am I the only person who feels this way? |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
Is it too hard to simply measure your hole centers with a caliper and lay it out? I'm not being a jerk, just asking. A template is a nice touch, but is it really that hard to lay out 4 holes and drill them?

hehe....and unless the template is very well done, including only the minimum relief for the carb to pass, usually us end-users can do a fine or sometimes better job on our own.

Isn't that part of the fun of this hobby, laying things out and setting things up? Does everything have to be done for us?

Do what I did for my SV 26. Take a piece of paper and set the engine on it with the standoffs mounted. Trace around each standoff. Remove the engine, find and mark the center of the circles, lay it on the firewall and then drill.

Look and you should find, Ask and you will receive.
Turn off the sizing on your printer and it should print scale http://www.zrcgf.com/pages/files/Aer...ngTemplate.pdf Milton |

Look in the Thread RCGF engines and you will see the jig that I used for my 26cc. Thanks to T.O.M. It worked great. I held it on with some hot glue until I could get the firewall drilled.

Maybe it will help if I show a picture. The mounts do not extend past the carb. So in order to form a template I would have to remove the carb, Which I really don't want to do on a new engine.
Thanks to Milton my worries is over. Thanks a ton. (It would still be an easy fix to just throw one in the box)[:-] |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
I do not own a caliper. |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
Hi,
Take a piece of thin cardboard and start cutting and behold a pattern is easy to chop out. Elson |

Is it just too much to ask that so called "modelers" learn to think for themselves? Or should every kit come with a template for every conceivable engine that could be used on it?

I was waiting for T.O.M to chime in here!

Now, finally I can put my reading glasses aside.
why can't we use this font size from now on. :D:D:D |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
Got my vote on that. :D

RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
If the guy would have gone back to the RCGF site he would have been able to see how to make a template. It's all in the engine mounting section. Projecting to the point where removing the carb and reed to make the job easier should not have been all that difficult to figure out:eek:
The font size was in response to the emphasis expressed in the first post. |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
can i just borrow someone calipers?:D

RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
Not evry airplane for every engine, but each engine should come with one. With laser or CNC routering its not a big deal.
My MLD has a nice ply template, carried it to the hobby shop when I was looking for a plane. Sure easier than lugging an engine around. |
RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
But how is a template going to help you figure out how much to offset the engine mount so the spinner ends up in the center while compensating for down/right thrust? I hear many new models are 0/0. Oh well.

RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
Again, go visit the RCGF website and look at the engine mounting articles. [link]http://www.zrcgf.com[/link] All will become clear.
Or, go to the Wild Hare Forum here and look through the "New, 35% Edge" thread. Same mounting info in the article. |

Andy what r u going to run this motor on? talk at you soon Gerald

RE: IS IT TOO DARN MUCH TO ASK???????
With the length of firewall to spinner known, most of the kits I tried my template on, had the offset marked,,,,,weeee no math required. The template showed real fast which firewalls were too narrow for the engine using the marked offset.
If the firewall isnt marked then the math is the same with or without template. The template just gets the bolt holes correct.
