Evolution 58gx2
Hey Guys, How would this engine do on the Lanier Edge 94"??
Thanks for the replys. |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
Dont have my 58 on a 94 inch edge but on my 86 inch Yak @ 22 lbs its way over powered. But I like it that way. :D
It will hover @ 1/4 throttle. |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
eZer, How do you like the engine, I have read alot of post on this plane they say between 21-24 lbs depending on engine. I think 22 is likely.
thanks Tim |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
If something or anything happens to it ,I will buy another.
That should tell it all. |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
I have this engine on my Aeroworks Yak 54 with an 85-inch wingspan. The plane has a ready-to-fly weight of around 20 lbs and this engine is a PERFECT match for a plane this size. It delivers loads of power and has the ability to launch out of a hover with authority. I can't imagine running a standard 50cc engine on a plane this size; it would be way underpowered for my taste. In my opinion, any plane within the 18-22 lb. range, which is basically the gap between a 50cc and 80cc airplane, would be a perfect fit for the 58GX2. I'm swinging a 24x10 prop on a standard Pitts muffler with excellent performance, although this engine has the potential to really come alive with a canister system.
BUT, I've just looked into the Lanier Edge and it looks like this is designed as an 80cc plane. In that case, the 58GX2 would probably be too underpowered on a kit this size. Start looking into the Evolution 80GX or DA-85. The 80GX only costs $80 more than the 58GX2, but you'll get MUCH better performance on the Lanier. |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
Also depends on the flying you'll do. Flying circles it'll fly a 30 plus pound plane. I like to cruise at half throttle myself with rocket type vertical when needed.:)

RE: Evolution 58gx2
So it looks like 22lbs is the max for 3d.
thanks for all that replied. Tim |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
How much heavier is the 58GX2 than the other 50cc motors such as the DA-50 or Area 51.
I don't mean the published weight but the actual weight (Engine + ignition) if someone has them. From the published weights, all other things being equal it seems that the 58 is almost 13oz heavier than a DA-50. Thanks. |
RE: Evolution 58gx2
Mine weighs 4lb 10 oz with bcm pitts muffer.

RE: Evolution 58gx2
BME 58 extreme is 44oz INCLUDING ignition.
