BME 50 with a 24X8 prop
Has anybody run this combo? I am getting about 6,600 on ZingerPro 22x8 and I have a feeling that a 24 prop would offer better breaking, slower landing and a killer torque rolling and hover. Any comments will be appreciated.

I would get away from the Zingers. A Meijlik 22x10 or the Menz 24x8 will give you more rpm. The menz is favored by many on the DA-50 and BME-50.

My experence is that you will get more RPM from the Menz or Mejzlik propellers compared to the ZInger.

A 24" prop disc will provide more static thrust at the same rpm as a smaller prop, unless you can slow the idle way down with the big wood I believe speed will not be effected for landing. As far torque rolling goes the larger prop will bite harder and with the larger disc area you'll find it hard to find a good compromise for hover with throttle settings, I refer this phonomena as pogo sticking. Plus the larger prop is harder to spool up. I'd stick with a 22/8 Menz S, Moki, Bambula, 3W or even the Mejzlik prop, there are others as well. Wide blade props seem to offer the best braking. |

6600 on a Zinger Pro 22x8-- is --not too spiffy.
also when we ran a labored experiment on 22x8 props a while back - we really gave that prop low marks we were flying a H9 Cap w/ZDZ40 and JA Pitts muffler - pretty much a ARF setup The MenzS 22X8 and the Zinger Pro 22x10 ran about the same and gave -easily -the best overall performance -flying the IMAC Unlimited stuff. Your DA50 should perform better on these props also. The Mejzlic looked purty but performance at our 4500 ft was not too good -lots of revs - no real pull. |

My bme 50
7300 Moki 22x10 7400 Menz Ultra 22x10 7150-7200 Menz S 22x10 J&A Pitts muffler, amsoil 50:1, never tried a 24x8 |

On my 60 ZDZ =I try props which load to where the manufacturer says best power (max torque) is occurring .
I tried cutting down and reshaping bigger props to get a wide very stiff blade. Although it takes a bit of work - the slightly smaller diameter very thick hub and paddle blades really have the best performance for aerobatics -in that pull from stuff like double up snaps is better. At sea level -maybe this is not a good setup -but sure works at our 4500 ft elevation. A side benifit is extremely low noise level. should work on any engine |

I have been using "MSC" props on my BME 50. The RPM is lower
7000/ 22x8, but the pulling power is fantastic. |

Yes -my point exactly - all the ballyhoo about rpm on props labeled 22x8 etc is meaningless -
I see 28x10 props which guys use to show the fantastic power of their engines . In reality some ofthese don't load harder than some 26x10 props - over 1000 rpm difference in same "size" props is very possible. This has gone on since the first Powerprops/ Rev Ups/ Top flights etc comparisons - of almost 50 years. |
