Hawk props
 

A few months ago I bought a couple Hawk beech props from Hobby City and found them to be well made and quite suitable for my general sport flying. Recently I tried to get some more but HC seems to have dropped that brand. Does anyone know of a possible supplier or source of these props.

I got an 18x6 from Redwing ... www.redwingrc.com

They are the C type (see photo), not the more generic rounded blade ones I saw on hi model.  With the shipping it costs from China they are about the same cost

Hey All
There is a North American Distributor coming.... details are being finalized from what I have heard. August/September time frame.

The props are built with the same wood (from Germany) that XOAR props uses. What is more interesting is that Hawk has an awesome line up of Carbon Fiber props. Extremely well made too.

I will post more information as I find out more.

you can ordered from www.rc-fans.com or clyone, the 22x8 that i ordered a few weeks ago to test them(they are nice) cost me $11 bucks, the shipping  is not a big deal, it will cost about $13-$15 each shipped if you order about 4 or 5 so is a bargain.

RedwingRC says they are made from Zelkova wood. That wood hardly seems to compare to the hardness of good beech or rock maple. If the wood is too soft, you are liable to break prop bolts.

I bought 2 Hawk props when I bought my DLE30 from Peakmodel... 18/10 and 19/10

Both worked great and did not compress too much

I picked up a Xoar 19/8 because I needed an 8 pitch and Xoar was closer shipping

I think the Hawk props are SLIGHTLY narrower than Xoar and so slightly higher RPMS... May be a good thing[8D]

Pe Reivers - I was going to ask you if you know specifically about this wood?  I have used the props and they seem to have about the same density as the Xoar beechwood props.  I see you are a dealer for Xoar though - I think they are very good props, but I don't know that the Zelkova wood has any less strength than the beechwood. 

I did a quick test of putting a weight with a pressure point on each and the indenation was similar.  If I break a prop maybe I"ll do more in depth comparison.

I have been using Hawk props for a long time.
They are made from the same wood as Xoar props, or beechwood and come in various shapes and there are also some CF props coming from them but I haven't seen those.

Most common here are the A types which have a rounded tip shape and C type which is a bit narrower blade.

I have found Hawk props to require only minimal balancing and they are generally cheaper than many of the more marketed brands.

I have been using the 16x6 and 16x8 Hawk props for about a year now and have found their performance almost identical to similar sized Xoar props. The props have a high quality finish and required very minor balancing. The wood quality seems to be quite similar to a Xoar and the compression noticed from the prop washer does not seem to be execssive.

Hey Guys - These props are a great product at a great price. I don't expect it will last long, as Henry mentioned, a distributor is picking them up. Since there's some recent interest in them here - I put a special on my site. $13 shipped to try an 18x6 or 19x6, through the 9th. I'm going to be ordering some more for 50cc sizes as well (23x8 etc)

I'm in the states too, so if you have issues it's a little easier to resolve them - though I'm sure you won't with these props!

This is Zelkova, AKA Elm wood. The props in your pictures are Beech. Can you elaborate?

There is nothing much to elaborate on.
These are beech props. I'm not aware of any prop manufacturer that uses zelkova (elm) but I have been known to be wrong before

Compare the colour and grain

These are the two main types sold here in Australia, the C type and A type.

I actually found that information elsewhere. I was researching trying to find out what kind of wood it was. I guess I need to change that. I'm no wood specialist. I just know they have performed VERY well, and don't break easily (but are light)

I just went to order a couple more props.  I know people were sayingthey were getting them from peak or cyclone, for cheap, so I checked itout.  If I was going to get 3 18x6 props (I really only needed 2, butfiguring I was going to try to save on shipping by ordering fromoverseas)  it would have cost me $52 from peak.  It would have costabout the same from Cyclone, and $47 from redwing. 

Only from redwing I wouldn't have to worry about if something's wrong Iwould have to pay HUGE cost to ship it back (realisticly I'd take a $12loss on it, adding to the original price for the other 2).  Also, I canorder one at a time at a reasonable cost.

If you like these props you might want to support someone here so youhave access to them and don't have to buy a dozen at a time to make itworth while. Just becuase the props are $9 a piece, doesn't mean you'regetting them in at that (it's more like $17!  and that's if you arebuying SEVERAL do the math.  Actually for 1, it was $18 JUST for theshipping from peak.

Carries them, reputable, I've done business with Ron and will again. Bought a Hawk 22x8 for a 50cc because no one had Xoar stock.

I fly both Xoar Sword props and Hawk props on my DLE 55. The Hawk props actually have slightly stronger pull on the uplines, but after measuring and going over both 22x8 props, it's due to the slightly wider blade at mid. RPM are comparable, but about 200rpm less on the Hawk 22x8 (7210rpm) vs 7410rpm on the Xoar 22x8 Sword. Great props, but now I'm sticking with Xoar due to availability, looks and ease of purchase. I run the 23x8 Xoar/22x10 Xoar.
