FTL 26cc

1 Attachment(s)
I bought two of these for a Sky King Songbird, I'm breaking them in on some ARFs though. I've never seen anything written about them so it was a little bit of a gamble.

The first impressions where good, the come nicely protected in a molded foam, the first thing you notice is the CNC crankcase, BING. With the Chinese you don't know if this means the crankcase is CNC'ed from billet or if they just ran a CNC machine over a casting, I think I saw that once on a Chinese engine. These appear to be billet.[sm=thumbup.gif] The first time I tried to check the timing I got nothing, one of the sensors was defective, I check the timing on the on I didn't have mounted and found it to me too advanced, ~40*. Now even though they say they are run for seven minutes at the factory, I'm thinking maybe not. I checked the needles on the carb, and they are both set at about 1 1/4 turn, none of my engines run with that setting, so now I'm pretty sure that if it was run they just started it, saw that it turned over and boxed it.

I ran it today. The first thing I did was time it, then I turned both needles out 2 turns. Boy was this thing a bear to get started! I tuned the carb, and then checked to see what the needles where set to, both where set now at 1 1/4 turn.[sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=angry_smile.gif] Boy am I embarrassed. I guess they do run and tune them.

Once I got the carb back to where it should have been left at, the engine started easy, ran very smoothly, and I'm happy with it.

7000rpm with a Turnigy 16x8 Cherry prop.
1740 idle.
This was after about 32oz of 32:1 Pennzoil Aircooled.
Good acceleration, seems very smooth, a vibe at 2700 rpm, but that may just be the harmonics of the plane it's in.

I might have been better off not touching anything, it was tuned pretty well from the factory.

The defective ignition happens. I would think they have one ignition and plug they use on all the engines, then just put your sensor on after testing because the engine had been tuned, but the plug was new.

Rich if you get a chance try it wih a Xoar prop. The rpm seems a little low. I don't know if it is the engine or that prop loads the engine allot. I have an SPE which uses the same cylinder, piston, etc. basicly just has a different crankcase from what I can tell. I have it changed to Rcexl ignition set at 28 degrees. On the first tank it was turning a Xoar 16x8 at 8300.

And those Xoar props pull like mules especially the laminated ones.

Hello Everybody!

What spark plug does this engine uses? Is it a CM6?
Is there any better spark plug and Caniste/muffler for this angine better than the stock pieces?

Thanks
Moss.

I have a rather heavy Balsa Nova. I was using a Super Tigre G-2300. It pulled the plane around just great. The problem was, it just wouldn't keep running.
I bought a FTL26cc from Hobby City. It started first time and run fine. The problem is, all I can get 6800rpm out of it. The plane barely gets off the ground. The only other gas motor is a Zenoah G20EI. It seams a lot more powerful.
All I can get out of the FTL26 is 6800rpm. I think I'm going to go back to the Super Tigre and hook up a D cell battery to the plug and see if that keeps it running.

Hello

Please can you post the FTL 26cc bolt pattern?

Thanks

Those engines have been known to be supplied with the timing set incorectly, so it might be a good idea to have yours checked, which should be set at 28 deg. BTDC. Also what size prop are you using ?

Hello Karol

Can you tell me the bolt pattern of the FTL 26cc in order to see the firewall bolt holes, and also if the holes are for a 5mm bolts.

Thanks, Lechuza

Hi, I know this thread is 6 years old, but someone may reply.
Does anyone know the bolt spacing and bolt size of the muffler ?
I need one of 32mm spacing and M5.

Thanks, love.
