CDI Ignition troubleshooting

1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys.

I have a problem with my R254 marine gas engine.
Last time I was out sailing around, my engine suddanly quit running.

Now it has an intermedant weak spark every 2-3 seconds......instead of the nice blue spark at every stroke it had when new.

Is there an easy way to messure on the source coil, and ignition coil to find out which component is malfunctioning ?

I have checked all the connecting wires for shorts and continuity, and it all looks good.
Since it still produces a weak spark every 2-3 seconds, then maybe it is difficult to isolate the fault [:@]

Contact manufacturer support. Step one is to try a new ignition module. Most mfg or importers will work with you on this.

IMAC781 said it all. With that sealed ignition module you can only replace it. The only thing to check would be the clearance between the coil and the magnets and then replace the plug. Then the module. Is the plug wire removeable?

Thanks guys.

I had a friend come over with 2 zenaoh 26cc PUM coils, and they are actualy a direct bolt on fit to the RCMK engine.
I found out that it is the source coil bolted on the engine, that is broken.

So Ill order a new one. ;)

The silicone boot in the spark plug may have a hole burned in it. It will be a pinhole with a carbon track in it. That will cause the spark to short to the cap. If you hear a pop when testing it this is the likely problem. If you get a pop without the spark plug that is a sign too. The silicone boot can be replaced. CH can guide you or do it for you. If it is under warentee let the maker do it.
