Throttle Pushrod for Gas Engine
 

How important is it to have a non metallic pushrod? I bought a Dynaflight PT 19 w\31cc Ryobi Gas engine converted by Jagg Engines. It has a metal cable for the throttle pushrod. It will be a major re construction to change this set up. The gas tank box is glued in and would have to be cut out to allow access to the firewall and pushrod. Is there a non metallic pushrod that would fit in the same housing as a small cable goes? Any ideas would be appreciated. Also the kill switch is mounted about 6" foward of the receiver is this far enough away.

Ideally the throttle linkage should be of a non-conductive material. Addtionally the kill switch should be as far as possible from anything related to the RX system. Six inches should be "OK".

Do a range check, note the range engine off and then do another range check engine on at say half throttle an observe if there is a problem. In the even there is not a problem your good to go. If you have a problem you have to make some descisions.

Thanks for the help. I managed to get a bigger outer nyrod in place and that let me put an inner nyrod with about 2" of metal rod on each end and about 10" of nyrod in the middle. This is my first Giant scale and my first gas engine, I can't wait to get her in the air. Damn, I feel like a little kid at christmas.

The non metallic pushrod is just one of those "insurance items that make for a problem free gasser setup.The electronic ignitions seem more sensitive than the magnetos.A careful on and off range check is your best test.......as a general rule keep all parts of the radio and engine systems as far apart as possible including on off switches and all wiring.....

Carbon Fiber OK?
 

I have some 1/16" carbon fiber I was going to run through a sheath for my Taurus 2.6 throttle. Has anyone used this successfully? It is conductive but with a high resistance. It suppresses RF when used as a fuselage reinforcement and they say the antenna must not be blocked by it. Thought it would do well as a gasser linkage.

Kevlar Line?
 

I read somewhere that Kevlar line could be used with the spring atttached to the throtle so that the servo pulls to open and releases to close. Someone clamed very good resolution and there is a clear weight advantage. Any reason not to do this?
