How do you know which?
How do you know which gas engine is best for a specific application? IE...Cub vs Extra vs something else...
My situation: Purchasing a 73" Pilot-RC Sbach 342. Looking to purchase a gas engine, most likely candidates are DLE 30, Syssa 30, and MT 35. All are within an ounce or so of the same weight. All are acceptably priced. I want the cowl to look clean with a minimum of cutting. I want the plane to fly with authority. I don't 3D, but I want it to be able to so I can learn more skills as well as fly basic IMAC/pattern stuff. If you were me, how/what would you choose for this particular airplane and why? Please make your recommendation as aircraft specific as you can...Thanks! |
RE: How do you know which?
Syssa 30 if you can get one it has a nice compact rear exhaust ,last time i tried there was a back log.Next best would be the DLE30,but some have a questionable idle,or it may just be a tuning issue?

I got to fly it some last fall and its performance level was as I expected. My experience with the engine seems typical for those who have flown it. Overall, I like the engine very much but there are some things about it I would change if I could ..... I described these in the Syssa thread so won't repeat them here. Nothing major, just personal preference things and I'll let it go at that. The Syssa has good power and excellent idle / throttle response. The DLE doesn't seem to handle quite as well but seems to enjoy a bit more power (maybe a lot more power?) I'd recommend the Syssa. Overall, these three engines are still relatively new designs with the usuall new design problems. Future production runs will have improvements as user reports and problems surface. I'm wanting another 30 sized engine but will take a wait see for a few months to see how these engines shape up over time. |
RE: How do you know which?
The MLD 28 cc would fit I believe very well in that plane. Strong engine. I'm using one on my Extra 260 with a 71" span and around 12 lbs. Email me as I may be able to get you a deal on a new one.

this is a great engine spins a 19x8 at 8000 rpm.... |
RE: How do you know which?
Wow, I am impressed,
That 28cc is getting stronger and stronger, how many hours do you have to wait until it swings a 26x10 at 1700000 RPM???? |

jedijody, I PM'd you a couple of days ago for some of your expert feedback. Can you pm which you'd choose of the 2 you are working with?

RE: How do you know which?
The JC (RC Aero) will not swing a 19 x 8 at 8000 RPM, nor will it swing an 18 x 8 at that. It is, however, a very nice motor, and has good power for its size. (Possibly one of the better 26 to 30 cc engines power wise) It also has great throttle response. They fly the 25% aerobatic aircraft very nicely.
Some of the figures quoted on the forum, are sometimes quite special [sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif] |
