Maybe a dumb question.
How can Permatex RTV get into the carb (under the metering needle)?
The only place the user put the Permatex was around the exhaust port (to make a gasket for his header). This is a DA 50. His first mistake was removing the screen in his carb, and not putting it back. |
RE: Maybe a dumb question.
Obviously it was put there. It is not going to migrate there on its own. LOL

To expand upon my answer I've run into many cases over the years where people will flat out lie. Perhaps to save themselves embarrasment - who knows. Or not knowing the history of the motor perhaps some other individual did the deed.

RE: Maybe a dumb question.
I submit that the exhaust work was done first., then without properly cleaning up work was performed on the fuel system and some errant RTV that was stuck to a finger came off and wound up where you found it.
Whenever I look into a carb and see that someone has removed the screen I know to expect the unexpected. |
RE: Maybe a dumb question.
Not for the life of me can I understand why Clarence Lee in his popular Engine Clinic column in a recent copy of MAN monthly mag recommend that the screen be removed from the carb on gas engines.

Karol The screen isn't fine enough to filter gasoline but is certainly there for a good reason. To prevent a piece of crap from getting past it and plugging your carb. |
