ZDZ Question
 

I have a ZDZ 40 RV and I'm having a heck of a time trying to remove the spark plug. I've never seen one so tight. Is it standard thread (turn left to loosen)? I want too make sure I am turning it the right way.

Warm the head up some before you try to take the plug out

Use a Monokote hot heat gun and heat it up pretty hot

Good advice so far but I'll add that I didn't like the provided socket at all with the required torque. I couldn't find a thin wall socket which would fit so I ground the outside of a 3/8" drive deep socket down to fit.

If you're not experienced with mechanical things like tightening bolts without a torque wrench, you may want to consider buying one because the ZDZ uses a tapered thread sparkplug and requires 15lb.ft of torque when you install the sparkplug. That's a BUNCH compared to other engines which use a more conventional washer setup with the sparkplugs. Using a tapered seat plug was NOT one of ZDZ's better ideas IMHO...:eek:

Change the plug cap over to a RCexl and then you can use a standard CM6 plug.

Can't use a CM6, wrong thread..Forget the steel cup, use a BPMR6F and get a cap from BadAzz,,,You won't have to cut the top off the spark plug and the setscrews that aren't there anymore won't get loose and let the cap fall off....;)
There are no taper seat 10mm thread spark plugs for our use..

Also use some anti seize on the threads next time. Using heat as recommended will get it off easier. That's what worked last time this was posted. And it gets posted now and then.

I used an extension bar (about 15 inches in length) that goes into the supplied ZDZ socket. Give the bar a couple of hard and sudden pushes to loose the grip.

Comparing with my other gas engines, the ZDZ is different (e.g., plug, gas). At the end, I sold the engine.

Run the motor and let it warm up, then try removing the spark plug. Or take a tourch and use it to heat the head up around the spark plug, then try to remove.
Nothing wrong with the current spark plug and cap set up, but torquing to the specs is needed. If you do decided to change it over to a cm6 plug, there is an threaded adapter you can get, then you will need to change the cap or the whole ign (Rxcel make a good one and is not too expensive).
When putting the spark plug back in, put some high temp thread lube/sealant on it. This will help with the threads picking up which can happen if left in too long (long time).

I run my 80RV-J with 14 to 10mm adapter and CM-6 from Wrongway rc,Rich should have all you need,Engine runs great,good luck.
