Type of racing - poll
To satisfy my curiosity and perhaps yours I have put this poll together to try to get a count of people that race in various classes. I have selected some broad categories for the poll and may refine that in another post if the response warrants it. Besides leaving a vote if you don't mind posting what class you race in if it is different from the the main types referred to.
You can leave multiple votes, please restrict your selection to the racing you are active in, or intend on being active in. Please vote for one class only once... even if you are really excited about it. thanks wkevinm |

We race 1/2 A Pylon with 13 oz - 200 sq in models with .061 glow engines that turn over 30,000 rpms. We use a three pylon course with 300' from end to end and 80' between 2 & 3. a 10 lap race takes a tad over 1 minute to run. The models are going right around 100 mph. We also have an electric class with the same airframes that are even faster.

Mike what are the rules for the 1/2A racers you fly in Provo? There are several of us from the Pocatello Id. area that are intrested in comming down to race.

As most know the availability of reasonably priced 1/2 A engines is seriously in trouble. As a result - The 1/2A Glow class is dying, dying, dead. We are in the mist of tying to come to agreement on a 300 sq in class in either .15 Glow engines or maybe even electric. The E-200 rules as listed on the CUPRA website is not likely to change. Come on down and race with us in the Spring. We have two people from Malad Id. that come every month and even one racer who flys in from Calif each month to race. We also have a couple from SLC and even the Ogden area. We did have one racer that used to come from Elko but we haven't seen him for a few years. Also the St. George area. |

Mike are the wings on these models monokoted or baged and painted?? are their any plans available? foam cores available??

All these things are true. They come in many forms. Two of the guys have been doing composites. You can buy one from Marty <[email protected]>. I have my own design done the old fashioned way, built up balsa covered in film. Another composite is Jon's, I don't know if he's interested in selling but he can be reached at <[email protected]> also the CUPRA web site has been developed and maintained by him.

Mike by composite do you mean hollow core wings or basla and foam covered with fiberglass?

Well this isn't my area of expertise but I'm pretty sure they are foam core vacuum bagged with Mylar painted skins.

Missed the poll.... Warbirds on 2 pole. 40 size planes w/ YS 1.10-1.20's.
Also race small Warbirds with .25 motors in a stock class........... same kit, motor, prop, fuel. On our 10th year of doing this type of racing monthly.... great guys, great fun. Jimmy Skids |

I liked Quarter Midget .15 but the high performance engines were getting expensive.
In England they had Formula-20 which was about the same size as QM but used inexpensive plain-bearing .19 or .20 engines. I think the Fox .19 was one of the hot setups and the engines were much cheaper than a Nelson or Rossi .15. I've often wondered if you could squeeze an OS .25FX in the nose of a QM. If not, maybe an Irvine. |

I have 2 QM HE-100s with FX25's in them and 1 with a webra speed 25, they fit pretty easy. The webra powered one was clocked at 121 mph this past summer, I think they would be great small size racers

Are you able to fully cowl the .25 engines in?
I was thinking about the "Pogo" that Fred Reese did years ago, using a HOB QM wing kit. The Pogo had pretty big cheek cowls. |

Niether the FX or the webra will fit completly inclosed although the webra would with a 1/2" prop spacer. I had one HE-100 with a K&B 3.5 in it and it was fully cowled with the pipe exiting just in front of the canopy. As for the prop on the webra I was using an 8x6
MA scimitar with 30% magnum fuel. |

We have been flying a club series in North Texas utilizing 424 airframes and OS 25's. It is a great deal of fun! We have also had 3 EF1 races run along with the series this year, and I like them even more!!! I truely hope the EF1 concept takes off, as the planes are fast enough to be fun, fly extremely well, and look great.

I used to have a little 300 sq in "quickee" looking airframe that I scratch built, with an OS .25 FSR on it. With a Zinger 7/7 wood prop on it the little thing moved right out!

Club 40 is alive and doing VERY WELL here in Alabama, World Models SkyRaider MachII ARF , Thunder Tiger Pro 40 engine, any commercially available prop you want to run, 15% club supplied fuel, 2 pylon course.
