Help identifying this plane.

Recently bought this plane at our local auction but don't know what it is. It is a fiberglass fuse with a 42.5" wingspan. Fuse length is 30" nose to tip of rudder.

what size mount is in there for the engine? Perhaps a .15? Might be an old .15 sized quarter midget airframe. Need a good profile view of the fuse.

Check out the ME109 on Matney's site under "quarter midget". He still has some .15 sized QM kits that he'll mold if you want.
http://www.matneymodels.com/qm.html But those rounded wingtips look more Napier like. (Napier-Heston). You might google around some for pictures of old .15 QM planes. |
It could also perhaps be a Heinkel He-100 plane, believe it was Jim Gager that make that kit.
That might be most likely. A friend of mine that flew more .15QM than I did reminded me of that one. |
I will try and get more pictures tonight yet. It came with a 2025 david brown motor mount.

I'm pretty sure it's Jim Gager's He 100, although Gager's design called for a constant-chord midsection from the root to about where the wheels are. But the builder may have sanded a straight taper into it, or perhaps used cores from a Jim Gager P-39/P-63. The airfoil would've been close enough to work.
As QM15 airplanes go, this was definitely one of the better ones. The upright engine is a no-hassle setup, and the wide-stance, wing-mounted landing gear made for great ground handling. You should clean it up and fly it for sport! Cheers, Duane |
