Need some Inputs?

1 Attachment(s)
At the recent SWAC show in Arlington, I attended two presentations. One was a Safety Meeting, The other was a VERY WELL done Insurance Presentation, such details can be found in the AMA forum, thread "For your information."

At the Safety meeting I brought up the distance requirements, especially for the 2 pylon course that we use in our 'Scale Warbird Races' events.

IMO the SPECTATOR distance requirements are unreasonable especially for the .40 and larger engines.
My club's field was constructed under AMA's guidelines, yet now -- due to additions to the "Safety Code" (SC) -- we have to apply for a sanction and waiver at each time we want to host an event, or even just a simple club practice session.

IMO to have rules that are subject to "waiver" is rather silly. I feel these SC rules are far too restrictive to allow the average club to promote any racing on a casual basis as we use to do on short notice club fun programs.

While Safety is paramount in the operation, I think to basically outlaw the casual part of practice, training and presentation of Racing, under the guise of Safety Code, is far above the needs for adequate safety.

As a candidate for AMA Vice President, District VIII, I request your inputs.

Thank you

RE: Need some Inputs?

I do feel that the current AMA mandates for waivers based on .40 and larger aircraft need to be revised. For the AMA to hand out "suggested" flying site layouts and have fields built to their specs that require waivers, it does seem counter-productive. (FYI, our club is built with 190 ft runway to spectator area and we still need a waiver). I think a sensible admendment to the dimensions they go by is in order to bring things in-line. However, I for one don'y like to see spectators 50 ft off of the main runway, so there's got to be a happy medium somewhere.

Thank you for the reply.

Agreed, there has to be some better medium.
