I have been wanting someone to put out a Yak 55m in the 50cc size for while. Not sure about this one at 19 lbs [X(] . Also, for that much money I would expect a cowl ring instead of the exposed screws for cowl mounting.

This is a great looking plane. I'm considering getting one. When I compare the price to some of the other quality products out there it looks like a bargain. The EF Yak is $650 + $150 or so for freight. The SBach I just got was 679 + 65 in shipping. This one would net out at $540 (with discounts) and would ship free. A bargain for a top of the line 50CC plane.

Looking at their ads and referencing the monokote part numbers I'll bet this plane is covered with the best monokote. I know my 50CC Reactor was. I believe all of the "performance series" planes are covered with the good stuff.

This new line of Performance Series planes from Great Planes is top of the line stuff. This plane looks to have it all. A great size (88") and a huge wing area (1479") That is at the top of the list in both areas. And the weight at 18-19 lbs is good for this size of plane. My EF Yak weighs over 18lbs for comparison. My Sbach was 16lbs but isn't nearly as big.

I think this is a great looking product. I'm certainly going to consider it.

Thanks
Barry

AT maybe a little more if you include shipping, I think the Bill Hempel Yak 55 50CC is a better deal.
Single piece main landing gear, carbon fiber main and tail gear, and wing and stabilizer tubes.
Pocket hinges with a carbon rod coupling. Also 17 to 18 lbs. No manual - if you need one you
are not ready for this plane.

IMO the manual is helpful whatever you build/assemble , except building from scratch!

Really taking an interest in this plane. Any reviews yet? The video looks really good. It looks like it flys really light despite it's high wing loading.

The plane has not been released yet, so there aren't any reviews. I am attracted to the plane a lot too. The weight does not sound great (would like lighter), we know GP usually ends up heavy, but indeed the vid on Tower/GP site makes it look like the plane flies light. Keeping it on my short list for another 50cc due to the price. Jon

Barry,

I don't think the shipping is free for members. They added the dreaded "Oversized Product, additional shipping charge applies" statement. Must have been a recent addition, because it wasnt there last week. The surcharge on the Wagstaff Extra 300 is $80.00. Pretty much eats up the discounts.

You're right. I received e-mail from Tower that the plane is now in stock. I went through the buy process just to see what happens, and indeed an $80 shipping surcharge is added, making the price $610 with club discounts. Still not bad but it then is getting in rarified air with Aeroworks and Pilot. It's just a little less than those with shipping included. Still a neat looking new plane. Jon

The shipping charge has been there since UPS came out with a 80$ additional cost to ALL boxes that meet a specific size....
Nothing new there.....

I saw a pict up this plane from a rafter shot...It is REALLY nice looking in person.....REALLY nice.....

My recent experience with monokote is a little upseting though....

Purchased a CUB yellow roll....THe color is way off when compared to the monokotes Previous Cub yellow....
We are not just talking a slight dif. in rolls....

All my previous colors always were the same....Had purchased many rolls of Cub yellow prior for patches ect for my
1/3 Cap 580 ....In fact, H9 Ultracote is closer to the previous rolls (yes rolls) or Cub yellow....
The customer service is great...but Not sure how this got by them....

I have many Great planes aircrafts... and like them all...Just not sure if this was a Quality issue, or meant to do so???

I looked through the manual on the website, and I must confess...They really did a very Nice job on this plane....

The pipe tunnel and the removable bottom is Really cool....No one has such a strong construction..
They provided everything you need.. Don't even need to purchase 10$ exhuast holders: They provide 2-complete sets!...
2- holders for a pipe, 2- holders for a can. install!....
The only things I noticed that could be small tiny gripes or a bonus...
1.Canopy isnt glued (good if you want your options of pilot or not)
2.No cowl ring...

There are MANY other manufactures that don't do the cowl rings...so that is a VERY little gripe...IMHO.

I would love to have this plane in my fleet!....Looks awsome...

50cc class is full of planes right now....
A very popular field, that is for sure....
All have 1,400 square's wings, and many have tunnels..

I think this yak55m Is the best offering in this plane from ANY manufacture right now....
Unless you want to pay double and have a composite plane....
