Hey Hannes, Your Pilot looks Great! Your stealing my Ideas!!! lol... There's a guy out here that if you Send him a photo of your head, 360 Degree view and he will Carve your head and Exact face out of a block of Wood. Ive seen his work. He will carve it to what ever scale you need it... Anyways.... Looks really nice Hannes.

FYI!!! This message is for anyone who intends on Using a Moki to fly you Gee Bee.... I was talking to Gotz from Areoscale and he just received two Engines back from Over heating Damage! And thes engines were flying the Gee Bee! They were flying at over 300 degrees when they failed, The Moki Needs to be Baffled and the Temp comes down to 150 degrees! Please heed this warning, it will save you lots of $$$. The space in the cowl is just to big to Allow sufficient Air to pass over the heads and cooling fins. If the Cowl was smaller then it wouldn't be a Problem. If you need more info, You can ask me or you can call Gotz at Areoscale and he will fill you in... They are ,making their own Baffle for the Moki and will start selling it in a few months... Its Very Good Insurance...

Vince...

The cowl opening is so small as comapred to the Outside diameter. The entry lip and shape creates a Low pressure area behind it and curves the entry air towards the inside wall of the cowl. I was planning on making a short tube (long opening lip) to extend from the opening and to end in front of the radial to direct the air to the engine.. Another option would be to put a donut in the cowling to reduce the area between the cylinder heads and the cowl inner wall..

Hey Nexus, the paint is beautiful Did your painter also paint the numbers and dice on the fuse? You realize that the beautiful paint job is going to increase the pucker factor on the maiden flight?

Looks great!

Mine is still not finished.. It will probably be a winter finsh project.. Between buying the Moki and the 7955 servos my hobby funds are tapped out.. Plus I have a 3 year old daughter that happily takes up most of my free time..

Hey n8622t... Thanks for your compliments... Yes, Everything you see is all paint. I ordered a set of Decals only to show him the size of the Decals. So he out lined the decals on and Finished them up with an air brush. I could have just used the decals but if I did that... the red on the plane wouldn't match the lettering and dice. So he Matched everything in Pearl red. You should see this paint in the sun.... It is stunning!

Hey Everybody! F I N A L L Y !!!!!!!!! I get to start on my Gee Bee, I went out to the Painter 5 months ago But now look at it!!!! Totally worth the wait!!! It Is Pearl White and Metal Flake Red! And All the Lettering is all Air Brushed on. And If you will Notice, No Seams!!! Anywhere!!! Woo Hoo!!! Now I can Finally Mount my Moki!!..... Ill Keep you guys posted during my build!
Sorry, it´s only my opinion.

Please NEVER paint a Gee Bee with Pearl and Metal Flake. This airplane is not a Chip Foose customs car!! Please!! It´s a 1932 RACE PLANE.

1932 they Granvilles painted the plane with brush and gloss paint. Easy and cool.

And look on the markings, they are not on the original position. Why?

I think the quality of the paint job is very good, but I do not like the look - sorry**

n8622t,
You did not by chance weigh the major components before and after painting, did you?
I would guess that the painter sanded most of the old paint off before painting.
But I do know that custom paint plus clear does add weigh, and the more area you have it adds up.
I had a 92 inch Corsair which is the same basic wingspan with less fuse area than GeeBee, I sanded it , then added automotice base/clearkote and was shocked that it picked up so much weight, over four pounds,if I remember correctly.
I am be hopeful that yours picked no way close to that ,but would not be surprised if it did gain two or three.
The problem on a Gee Bee is that so much area is behind the CG, and on a plane with a gas twin, would complicate the tail-heavy condition that occurs upon balancing, But add that Moki radial, and there is your nose weight!
Bottom line is I am eager to find out what your final weight turns out to be.The norm, for a gas twin has been 33-35 lbs.
Since the radial adds a few, and the paint "could' add a few, I predict you may see 35-38 lbs, not to add to that "pucker factor", as it can still be flyable! .Jim,here on this thread had the black flamed GeeBee with a custom flamed paint job also and has hundreds of flights.
His was over 35 lbs with the smoke system and I remember a cowl pic with the cowl lip filled with lead to balance, so maybe the radial will just be perfect.
Go for it! Danny

It looks very nice I think..

Hannes remember that there were not headphones/communication radio used in the GeeBee in 1932 and also if the Granvilles had to transport the Gee Bee back in 1932 it would have been on a flatbed truck.. Far as the decals go, even Delmar's replica is not "Exactly" like the original. Delmar and Steve found out by comparison from a person that actually had a part of the original covering off the vertical fin and the replica they built and finsihed that it was very different from the original in both size, shape and color. IF you go through the archives on the web and look at pics of the R1/R2 you will notice many variances especially in the prop and cowl areas from picture to picture even..

I am not crazy about the factory finish from C-Arf and I applaud anyone for "fixing" it .. Nexus ,I can only hope that you can access the flying wire attachment in the fuse properly without butchering the openings and distracting from the pulchritudinous finish of the aircraft..

Good job on the wires and the care in setting everything prior to fitting them.. That is the way to do it, start from plumb and square.. Good Job!!

Rick, thats what Im thinking...the only thing that I can honestly say you did wrong Nexus, was not building the plane first, then disassembling it and prepping for paint..it would save you all the heart ache of hanger rash during the build, just be careful...OK?

Its Ok If you Dont like it Hannes, To each its own... But Respectfully speaking... I like it and thats what really matters. :-)

Hey n8622t... Yes I thought about that as well, I am a very careful builder not to mention Im not going to Wet sand the clear until the plane is finished, That will remove any scrapes or scratches that happened during the build. I had my painter put a little extra clear on the the plane just for that reason. Its just means a little more work on getting everything Wet sanded down to a smooth finish. But then when the buffing starts... Wow...

Hannes

I love your eye for detail and the amazing scale of your planes.  Your Gee Bee warms this purist's heart.  I also like your trailer that has matching wheels to its tow vehicle. If you go on my site, www.Bullockcars.com, you will see where I am coming from.  When I take my show cars to a Concour d'elegance, they are towed by the modern vehicles and they still score 100 points, because it's what on the field that matters. To each his own, that is what makes the world go around.

I also feel the Gee Bee needs to be flown, there are too many bench racers out here!

If you ask that question, you have never piloted a ProMod down the quarter.  It takes a pair to pilot a Gee Bee too.

I used to work with a guy that raced those too. That's all he would talk about...he was a real goofball The big joke about him was that he had a license plate on the front of his car that said, "Tan Nude", LOL
